Walton Raceway holds season’s first mudbog We had another week without having the best weather, but at least there were finally a couple of days for the farmers to get out planting. The fields were filled with machinery on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, planting corn for many. Sunday started well and then the skies opened and a torrential rain fell and an end to field work again. Sun, heat and a good breeze is needed to dry the land, so everyone can get back to work. It has been a very sad week around our area with the loss of several folks. We offer our deepest sympathies to Shirley Baker and family on the sudden passing of husband Alan. He will be missed by his children Thomas, Sara, Emily and Isaac and their families. Also mourning his loss is his sister Elda and the many members of the Clarke family. Alan was a very well-liked and loved fellow, by his family, his co- workers when on the Grey Fire Department, the teachers at North Woods as the smiling custodian, and the many students who had ridden on his bus or that he met in the hallway at school. A hard working farmer, a gentle soul and quiet temperament, he will be missed by all. Our condolences to the Baker family. Our sympathies are extended to the Wiederman family of the Walton area, on the passing of Dorothy Wiederman. She will be missed by her husband Tony and family of Rose, Harold and Debbie and their families. Our condolences to all. Moncrieff Line lost a long-time resident in Herbert Boettcher. Our sympathies to his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth and his sons Chris and Jan and their families. The family immigrated here in 1978 from Germany along with 10 Trakehner horses, a passion of Herbert’s. The family farmed together as the boys grew, with Jan deciding to follow his own passion. With two houses on the farm, Chris and his family of five, have always been available to help. Herbert was a quiet and loving family man, who was always cheerful and loved to chat when we would meet. He will be missed by all. Our condolences to the Boettcher family. A family from Alberta has been here for a short family visit, unfortunately due to a death. Paul and Teresa Glanville, Meaghan and Erica came home for the funeral of Teresa’s grandfather and spent time at Lorne and Bonnie Glanville’s while here. They managed to see quite a few of the Glanville family before heading back to Sylvan Lake , Alberta. Heading east for a short visit was Joelle Glanville from Black Falls, Alberta. Joelle made the trip to attend a weekend of celebrations for her sister Melissa’s upcoming wedding. A lovely shower was held for Melissa at the Egmondville United Church on Saturday afternoon for family, friends, neighbours and community. Melissa received some very lovely gifts from the Walton community and everyone attending. The Raceway hosted a mudbog on the weekend with an amazing turnout of participants, friends and spectators over the weekend. ATVs and vehicles had a great time challenging the muddy courses, trails, pits and holes. The rain on Sunday didn’t seem to bother them, but unfortunately, it made for difficult times to get normal vehicles out of the pits and the property. Participants were quite a sight when leaving, covered from head to toe in mud, with just their eyes clean from wearing the goggles. There was no telling make or models of vehicles because not a square inch was not covered in a thick layer of mud. The new business in the former Dauphin’s store is hard at it and already planning an expansion. The business is RTM North and makes fibreglass car accessories. The second business is Praxis which cuts and engraves plastic. They are very busy and welcome to Walton. It was birthday party time at the McDonald/Jarosz household in New Hamburg. It was our grandson Owen’s birthday and he celebrated his fifth birthday. It was a great afternoon with the kids all playing well and then it was time for the pinata. A homemade paper maché piñata proved too much for the kids after at least 50 whacks, it still would not break, so a little adult whack was required. Celebrating birthdays this past week include Jason Pennington, Leanne Armstrong, Luann Bennett, Dwayne Pryce, Ron Strome, Rachel Wilts, Gerry Ryan, Valerie Shortreed, Hailey Bachert, Alexandra Humphries, Abby McGavin, Jessica Pennington, Meaghan Bowles, Emma Dalton, Darrell Dalton, and Mary Pennington.
