Students awarded McCall Huron County Scholarships
Five Huron County students will
receive scholarships valued at up to
$32,000 over four years to pursue
their undergraduate degrees starting
this fall. This is the inaugural class
of recipients of the McCall Huron
County Scholarships, founded by
Marcy and John McCall MacBain
last year.
The recipients are: Sadie Collins
(Central Huron Secondary School),
Stephan Ducharme (South Huron
District High School), Cameron
Murray (F.E. Madill Secondary
School), Mikayla Skyring (Goderich
District Collegiate Institute) and
Hannah Tait (St. Anne’s Catholic
High School). In addition, three
students received one-time grants of
$1,000 each towards their university
studies.
McCall Huron County
Scholarship recipients are selected
based on the demonstration of strong
potential for leadership, positive
contributions to their school or
broader communities and an overall
commitment to excellence. The
scholarship supports them over the
course of their first undergraduate
degree at any Canadian public
university.
“I come from a tight-knit family
and my parents were highly involved
in our community”, said Dr. Marcy
McCall MacBain. “The activities I
had the chance to participate in, and
the support of my family and
community, were foundational for
me. They gave me the confidence
and perspective to pursue higher
education and encouraged me to
strive to be a strong contributing
member of society wherever
possible. John and I are delighted to
encourage these promising students
through this scholarship to continue
building on their skills and personal
talents and continue down the path
to realizing their full potential.”
The selection process began at
each of the high schools, in which
committees nominated a total of 20
students from those who had
completed a comprehensive
application for the scholarships. The
students selected to move forward
participated in extensive interviews
which looked beyond academic
achievement to examine activities
and pursuits in the service of others
and across a broad spectrum of
leadership roles.
• Sadie Collins of Central Huron
Secondary School has been
volunteering with the Blyth Festival
for the past four years, helping to
ensure that shows run smoothly. She

in competitive women’s hockey. She
is employed with the Ontario
Women’s Hockey Association as an

The McCall MacBain
Foundation’s mission is to improve
the welfare of humanity by
providing scholarships and other
educational opportunities that
nurture transformational leadership,
and by investing in evidence-based
strategies to address climate change,
preserve our natural environment,
and improve health outcomes.
The Foundation believes in the
power of education, and
scholarships in particular, to
transform lives and in turn transform
our communities to be fairer,
healthier, and more prosperous for
all; that climate change is the single
most pressing problem facing our
planet and that we must all do our
part to address it; and in an
evidence-based approach to health
care that will lead to more efficient
use of resources and greater impact
for our communities.
The Foundation has made
significant investments in the
leadership potential of young
people, most notably through the
new McCall MacBain Scholarships
at McGill, the Rhodes Scholarships,
the Loran Awards, and scholarships
at several universities in Canada
including McMaster University and
Dalhousie University, as well as the
Mandela Rhodes Scholarships based
in South Africa and the Kupe
Leadership Scholarships in New
Zealand.
