DATED AT THE MUNICIPALITY OF CENTRAL HURON this 22nd day of May, 2019. Brenda MacIsaac, Clerk Municipality of Central Huron NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING CONCERNING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE MUNICIPALITY OF CENTRAL HURON ZONING BY-LAW House fire claims life of Londesborough man Tragedy struck the Londesborough community Friday evening. Fire consumed the Radford family farm just west of the village and claimed the life of Brian Radford, who had been farming the property. The cause seems to have been a woodstove. Please keep the many relatives and friends of the family in your thoughts in the coming days. Thanks is extended by the Londesborough Lions Club to Carl Nesbitt for selling ‘a lions share’ of the tickets for their recent fish fry. His efforts on their behalf were most appreciated. This coming Sunday afternoon, May 26, the community is invited to attend he community hall for the elimination draw of the ducks. To keep folks entertained during the draw the 4-H Square Dance Club, sponsored by the Lions Club, will have a family fun and achievement day. You are invited to enjoy live music, watch the dancing and perhaps join in with the new club. The Anglo-Saxon word for May was ‘tri-milchi’ because in May the grass is so green and lush farmers can milk three times a day. Another saying for May maintains that one can have a youthful appearance by washing your face with the dew collected in the morning. It seems it is also bad luck to buy a new broom or wash one’s blankets in May for fear of sweeping or washing away a loved one. We’ve likely all heard the expression, “Marry in May and you’ll rue the day.” Fatal fire Provincial fire investigators, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and coroners were at the scene of a house fire west of Londesborough over the weekend investigating the death of 62-year- old Brian Radford. The cause of the fire and the cause of death are yet to be officially confirmed. (OPP photo) NEWS FROM LONDESBORO By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO Comedy, dance, music on stage In the spring of 2018 two ‘mature’ women were in this area looking for some excitement and wandered into the Londesborough Community Hall to see just why there were so many cars around the building. They discovered that Londesborough United Church was hosting a talent and variety evening. Seems they enjoyed their evening so much they returned again this spring, on May 10. These ladies might also be recognized by area folk as Laura Scott and Harriet Shillinglaw. The ladies and the others gathered this year enjoyed entertainment from Auburn, Londesborough, Winthrop, Seaforth and Clinton. Kaden Popp, a Grade 8 student from Clinton, added fun to the event with his stand-up comedy routinues. There were many other young folk displaying their talent as well. Cousins Sadie Baxter and Morgan Yantzi sang and danced and another of their cousins, three year old Frances Coates played two numbers on her violin. Sisters Loralei and Holly Gross, both piano pupils of Barb Bosman, tickled the ivories with interesting tunes such as a “Russian Sailor Waltz” and “Kaleidoscope Colours”. Mary Ellen Gross, mother of the pianists, recited a childhood poem, Dr. Suess’ Mulberry Street. Vocal numbers by Mel Knox and the duo Barb Bosman and Ken Scott were well received by the audience. Talent on a variety of other instruments was also part of the presentation. A group of ladies from the Winthrop area who have been working with Sherry McCall for about a year played some numbers on their ukuleles. Marjorie Duizer sang two numbers while accompanying herself with her harp. Husband and wife, Murrray and Sherry McCall, and Maria Nemes who call themselves the Down Home Fiddle Group, had the audience tapping their toes while this group played and sang pieces like Grandma’s Feather Bed. One of the tourist ladies, Millie, she called herself, was determined to dance that night and found herself a partner who was adept at leading her through some cha-cha, rumba and swing steps. By all reports it was a pleasant and fun way to spend a Friday evening. TOWNSHIP OF NORTH HURON Village of Blyth As part of North Huron’s regular system maintenance, Veolia Water Canada will be performing their watermain flushing program during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from June 3rd through 14th, 2019. For further information please contact 519-357-9942. Thank you for your co-operation HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE The search team for the Londesborough United and Knox United, Auburn pastoral charge is thrilled to announce they have called a minister to the charge. Student Minister Susan McIlveen, presently ministering to a church in Saskatchewan, has been approved by the churches. The charge will become a Supervised Ministry Experience site. This is wonderful news for our rural community/church. Susan Barnett led the morning worship at the two churches on Sunday, May 12. The theme for the service was “Love one another as I have loved you”. In the supporting scripture readings, Acts 11: 1-18 and John 13: 31-35, Christ’s followers/disciples were given that message and told that the world would know them by their show of love for everyone around them. In today’s world as well the role of Christians is to bring our faith to others with love. In the words of Charlie Brown, ‘what the world needs is more love’. God’s love is unconditional; so should ours be. Mrs. Barnett told congregants to give their love away. She posed the questions - Was there an occasion in the last week when you could/should have shown love? Why didn’t you? The senior choir sang a lovely anthem, “Take My Hand”. The official board of Londesborough United will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4. Student minister coming
