the group in the forest. She chose to

Camp life is very different from
other ways of life. There are new
people coming to camp this year as
others have retired or are stepping
back. Many things are happening at
camp.
The hymn, “I’ve Got Peace Like a
River,” was sung. The offering was
received followed by the offertory
response, “Grant Us, God, the
Grace,” the offertory prayer, the
prayers for the people and the
singing of the Lord’s Prayer. The
camp song, “Sanctuary”, was sung
followed by the commissioning and
benediction and the responsive
“Amen”. Everyone was invited for
coffee and to talk to Clayton about
camp.

Townsends mark 50th wedding anniversary
The first week of May arrived, but
the April showers forgot to go away.
It’s cool and wet for the most part,
but the flowers are coming along
nicely. Lots of daffodils are
blooming, as are the crocus,
miniature tulips and my
paperwhites. There are lots more
coming along and now it’s time to
get the flowerbeds cleaned up a bit.
A little warmer weather would be
great and Sunday was a nice day, but
too busy a day for me to be outside.
It was a lovely afternoon for a
bridal shower for Rosie Grobbink.
The shower was held at the home of
Jane Zwep and a light lunch was
served to all. The bride-to-be
received many beautiful gifts from
the Walton and area community as
well as other lovely things from
those attending. Congratulations on
your upcoming wedding in early
July!
It was birthday time for our
grandson Wes. He celebrated his
fourth birthday with a gathering of
family for the afternoon on Sunday.
The nice day allowed the kids to
play outside before enjoying
birthday cake and ice cream!
Our sympathies to the Chalmers
family on the passing of Jim
Chalmers. He will be missed by his
wife of 60 years, Joan, and his
children Christine Knight, Dwight,
Darryl and Michael and their
families. Jim had been a resident at
Huronlea for about a year and will
be missed by his friends there. Our
condolences to all.
Congratulations to George and
Ruth Townsend on celebrating 50
years of marriage. A gathering of
friends and family was on hand to
help them celebrate. They are a
popular couple, so the celebrating
could go on for weeks! Happy
anniversary to them!
More signs of spring include lots
of machinery in the yards of the
farmers, greasing and getting ready
to hit the land as soon as it is dry,
construction trucks going up and
down the roads, new foundations
being poured for construction,
manure spreaders and manure on the
roads, lawn raking, sweeping and
mowing has begun and new seeding
in places.
Since the big auction sale at
McGavin’s, there has been a lot of
work done. The backyard is now all
gravelled and looking good. No
more grass to cut back there!
Celebrating birthdays this past
week kicking off the month of May
were Chris Holmes, Hayden Kelso,
Chad McCallum, Judy Valley, Bev
Fraser, Mitchell Godkin, Annelies
Ringgenberg, Justin Bernard,
Andrea Humphries, Eaden Linton,
Joe Ryan, Wes McDonald, Veronica
Grobbink, Emma Robinson, Pat
Melady, Armand Roth, Gerry
Sullivan, Brian Workman, Scott
McNaughton, Doug O’Neill and
Adam Jarosz. Happy birthday to all!
Giving back
The Brussels Optimists recently donated funds to the Ronald McDonald House charity
($15,000, above) and the Brussels Medical Dental Centre ($5,000, below). The funds were
raised through the club’s annual spring auction and dinner. (Shawn Loughlin photos)
