Phil Main from the Classic Rock
94.5 morning show will run, walk or
crawl 24 kilometres per day during
Mental Health Week, May 6-10, in
communities across Midwestern
Ontario.
“The run is dedicated to some
really great people we’ve lost and to
those who continue to fight in
silence,” says Main.
Beginning May 6, Phil will start
his 120-kilometre journey, working
alongside local groups like the
Tanner Steffler Foundation, Get in
Touch for Hutch, WES for Youth
Online, #LexTalknListen and the
Grey Bruce Branch of the Canadian
Mental Health Association. The goal
is to raise awareness of the
importance of good mental health.
Each organization will host an
awareness event in their local
communities.
On May 6, Main will start in Blyth
at the corner of County Roads 4 and
25 at 1 p.m., ending at F.E. Madill
Secondary School in Wingham after
taking some laps around the school’s
sports track. Main is expected to
arrive at Madill between 5 p.m. and
6 p.m.
The school grounds will play host
that night to an event supporting
#LexTalknListen, an initiative to
highlight suicide prevention and
awareness in honour of Lexi Brown,
a Wingham teen who passed away
last year. Brown’s struggle was
brought to light thanks to the efforts
of Braeden Ellis, who cycled from
Waterloo to Wingham in April of last
year to raise suicide awareness.
The event will include a barbecue
as well as a performance by
students.
Main’s personal journey has
taught him that helping others has
been good medicine.
“Mental illness takes many forms,
but I think I’ve dealt with it enough
to be empathetic to the struggles of a
lot of people who battle depression
and anxiety,” Main says. “I believe
we all have a duty to use whatever
we’ve been given to help each other
and I want to do that.”
