The winners were: high pink card, Gayle Neil; second high pink card, Mae Ritchie; high white card, Gord Machan; second high white card, Ken Speer and most shoots white card, Joann MacDonald. The next cards is on Friday, March 22 at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The community extends birthday greetings to Austin Bieman who is celebrating his 13th birthday. On Wednesday, March 6 in the Belgrave Community Centre a delicious ham and scalloped potato lunch was prepared by Cathy Procter and enjoyed by all those who attended. The next hot lunch will be on Wednesday, April 3. Everyone is welcome. The community extends sincere sympathy to Dianne and Len Zeuenbergen in the loss of a dear father, Glen Van Camp who passed away on March 1. Sincere sympathy is also extended to daughter-in-law Jane Van Camp and Jim Scott and to grandchildren Shane, Glen, Dan, Gavin, Becky, Colleen and Grayson and also to 10 great-grandchildren and to his sister Kay Harris and sister-in-law Lois Robertson. On March 1 at 2 p.m., 18 ladies from the area were welcomed to sit at the table prepared for the World Day of Prayer. The table was set with white tablecloths and adorned with red carnations and rosemary, grapes, types of salt and other Slovenian pottery and bread, all symbols of a table set for guests in Slovenia. The theme for the service was “Come – Everything is Ready” and written by the women of Slovenia. Muriel Coultes welcomed all by them saying, “Dober dan!” (Good Day) to each other. Catherine MacDonald played for the hymns that were sung. Nancy Jardin was the principal reader, and as each lady told the story of a woman living in Slovenia, Nancy led them in a response. The group watched the video that told of the history of Slovenia, after which Muriel read the scripture taken from Luke 14: 15-24, the parable of the banquet that was prepared and no one could come that was invited. Jesus calls us to radical hospitality to the poor, the lame and the marginalized, in an effort to create a relationship where care and mutual acceptance reflect God’s love and grace where there is no place for discrimination. Following the offering which will be sent to the Women’s Interchurch Council, the prayers of Thanksgiving were given and a closing hymn was sung. Doreen Mali, whose husband’s family is from Slovenia, had prepared the national loaf of walnut bread and grapes and helped serve the women. Doreen Mali displayed a doll in a typical dress worn in Slovenia, a recipe book, map and a canteen all which the women viewed. Nancy Folkard and Ruth Gordon served the wine (white grape juice) which was enjoyed by all. NEWS FROM BELGRAVE By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE BUY? SELL?
