It was a quiet week at the Brussels
Legion Branch. We are still hoping
there are a few more folks out there
that would like to purchase a
Remembrance banner. If you are
interested, contact the Branch as
soon as possible. We are preparing
the order for March and have some
orders ready now.
If you have a relative who served
during either of the World Wars, we
invite you to contact the Branch. Our
history books will possibly have the
required information, or you may
have it, and fill out the order form
and make payment. It would be nice
to have more banners to hang during
the Remembrance season this year.
The Thursday night darts had 17
darters take aim at the boards.
Winners were: first, Deb Burch and
Ron Schmidt; second, Catrina
Josling and Daisy Wong; high, Jim
Brown, 133 and Sheron Stadelmann,
121. A three-person team of Bob
Watts, Krysta Bujold and Sharon
Robbins did not have much luck
during one game and were skunked
that game.
The Catch the Ace draw was held
on Friday evening with another good
crowd on hand hoping they would be
the winners. The weekly winner was
Bob Simpson and he won $600. He
chose envelope number 11 and the
eight of hearts was found. The
estimated jackpot for next week,
March 15, could reach $12,000. Get
your tickets early!
The Huron County Men’s Dart
league played at the Branch on
Saturday. Over 50 men came out and
enjoyed a good day of play.

March Break, St. Patrick’s Day events set for area
It’s hard not to comment on the
weather when the sun is shining in
March or even the thought or reality
of rain. It’s a waste of breath but we
will still do it. So, now we’re into
March Break and time for a little
improvement perhaps.
Watching the news last week
showed the thousands of people
leaving from Pearson Airport on
Friday, the busiest day of spring; a
reminder of how mobile our society
has become. The effect even for our
community is that whenever folks
have a new experience, it affects
their life and in turn those closest to
them. New ways are introduced to
those around and things change.
Food and clothes are the obvious.
Travel to see and do other things is a
good way to open our eyes to the rest
of this large world we live in.
As I write this, I think about
Andrew in Yellowknife, Robyn
checking out Italy and Switzerland
on a school trip, Barrie Watson in
Arizona, Phil, Clif and Jim in
Alberta. Their roots are here, but
experience gives them a world view
that is theirs alone; making
conversation, usually, not weather-
related.
The Irish or those who have a few
Irish genes are getting the green out
this week. If every ethnic group
whoever arrived on our shores
celebrated like the Irish, we’d have a
lot of down time from work. I have
connections to Sligo, Ireland so my
green is ready to roll. Singing and
food will be the order of the day on
March 17. For some that means a
ticket for Four Winds Barn will get
your toes tapping. Enjoy our
heritage!
Events for March Break are in
progress, I’ve heard many plans
from cooking, games and sports, all
are an opportunity to do things that
are not routine. Enjoy the break.
Sometimes we don’t know the
resources we have right here. Did
you know a very knowledgeable
group meets twice a month at the
library to learn about cameras and
picture taking. On the second and
fourth Thursday evenings speakers
and sharing tips makes for a good
evening. So check out the library
treasures and think about your
camera ability.
Take care of yourself.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
