Studio 410’s ‘Shrek the Musical Jr.’ on stage in Blyth
Teeswater’s Studio 410 is in the
middle of a two-weekend run of
Shrek the Musical Jr. at Blyth
Memorial Community Hall with
three days of performances left.
The studio, owned by Devan and
Paige Ballagh, welcomed 2,300
students to school performances,
and opened the play to the public on
Sat. Feb. 23.
Further performances are
scheduled for March 1 at 7 p.m.,
March 2 at 2 p.m. and March 3 at 2
p.m.
Paige explained that this is the
fourth show for the studio at
Memorial Hall, and it’s second
musical, after performing Legally
Blonde: The Musical last year.
She explained that Shrek was
chosen because it’s a known
quantity for families and schools,
and that it’s already proven to be an
enjoyable story.
“Kids love big, bright colourful
shows like this,” she said. “Shrek is
already a favourite character and
show, and it’s a musical comedy that
people will enjoy.”
Devan agreed, saying that the
show really appeals to everyone.
The show is a not-for-profit
venture, and includes a cast of 23
local actors of all ages.

and nasty winter months the daffodil
and jonquil are the flowers to enjoy
this month. The gems for the month
denote courage, the aquamarine and
the bloodstone.
If your New Year’s resolution had
something to do with getting in
shape physically and eating better,
March is the month to reinforce that
resolution for it is deemed National
Nutrition Month in the U.S. And
Southwestern Ontario has made it
Easter Seals Month.
In an effort to keep one occupied
for what can still be a nasty and cold
month, March is also Craft Month.
The second week this month is
crochet week and the third Saturday
is quilting day. So stay busy.
The big time

Local club to mark centennial
The Walkerburn Club’s final
meeting of last year was held at the
home of Eileen McClinchey, with
Christena Gross as president of the
month.
Christena opened the meeting with
prayer, followed by The Lord’s
Prayer. Christena read about
“Thanksgiving 1793”. Eileen then
read the minutes of the last meeting.
Roll call was “something you like to
do in the winter”. Vera Penfound
gave the treasurer’s report.
It was moved by Deanna Snell and
seconded by Vera, that the club make
donations to One Care, The
Salvation Army and Soup and More.
As the club will be celebrating 100
years in 2019, members had a brief
discussion as to what would like to
do. The first meeting was held in
July, 1919.
Members will be starting to make
plans for a celebration in the new
year. Members signed some
Christmas cards for members and
past members. The next meeting was
scheduled to be held in January at
the home of Pat Hunking with Vera
as president and Deanna, the
program. Members will be certainly
hoping for better weather than last
year, as January, February and April
meetings were cancelled due to the
weather.
The club had a very successful
miscellaneous sale. Eileen served a
delicious lunch and after a friendly
visit, we all departed for home.
