The Good Samaritan Awards are presented annually by the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund. The Vu Pham Award recognizes dedication to youth and ensuring involvement and communication with them. It was presented to Caldwell at a special event in Goderich on Friday. “It was very humbling to receive the award,” she said. Caldwell didn’t exactly know what had earned her the nod aside from her work with local Scouting groups. Based on those who nominated her, Caldwell said her work with the Elementary School Fair may have played a factor in the win as well. The award was especially important for Caldwell as she goes to school with Josh Pham, Constable Pham’s youngest son. “His mom [Heather] has always been in and out of the different classrooms with her job,” she said. “I also played sports with Josh when we were young. I found it humbling because I knew who was behind it and it made being awarded a lot more special to me.” Other Order of the Good Samaritan Award recipients included Walter Waganka, who received the Sgt. Marg Eve Award for volunteer of the year; Bob Rowe of Freedom Syrup, who received the Corporal Matthew Dinning Award for volunteerism for veterans and service persons; Spencer Lazarevich, who received the Senior Constable Bruce Crew Award for sportsmanship and Alex Vanderene, who received the Paramedic Paul Patterson Award for life-saving.
