PAGE 17. ‘Change Her World’ fundraiser set Feb. 10 at Knox Murray and Joyce Vincent greeted worshippers and handed out the bulletins at Knox United Church on the third Sunday after Epiphany, Jan. 27. Minister Brian Hymers lit the Christ Candle. Mackenzie Wightman played inspiring prelude music and accompanied all the hymns. The opening hymn was “Immortal Invisible, God Only Wise.” Brian went over the announcements and welcomed the congregation on a stormy day. On Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Knox United Church, women are making soup, biscuits and dessert to be served after the church service. This is a fundraiser to help with items needed for “Change Her World” kits. Lunch is by donation and everyone is welcome. The Call to Worship was read responsively followed by “Seek Ye First the Kingdom.” For the children’s time, Brian said that God does wonderful things. He is constantly putting on garden gloves, using tools and planting seeds and working in mysterious ways that we don’t understand. God plants seeds in each of us and nourishes them. We should take the light of Christ into the community and be leaders of Christ. In our church we need to play a significant role and be part of the boards. God wants us to help others and care for the less privileged. What kind of difference can you make to help the church carry on? God has been planting seeds, let’s water them and see what happens. Doreen Marks read scripture form 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 and Luke 4:14-21. After the Hymn of Response “Take My Life and Let It Be” Nancy Jardin reported on the Minute for Missions reflecting on a person named Jennifer and how she made a difference by turning her life around, becoming a worthy part of society. Larry Harper and Doug Walker took up the offering which was dedicated. The Offertory Response was the singing of “The Church Is Wherever God’s People Are.” After the Lord’s Prayer was spoken and the Parting hymn “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing” was sung, the benediction and blessing, “Go Now in Peace” and the Giving of the Christ Candle concluded the worship service. After Brian said Grace the congregation adjourned downstairs for lunch and a time of fellowship and the annual meeting. The group was founded in 1970. By 2000, the group swelled to 65 members across a number of groups, but by late last year, only 13 members remained, many of whom were over 80 years of age.
