Kindness Matters
Mikayla Ansley of Blyth, centre, was recently honoured by the Lions Clubs’ Multiple District A,
comprised of Ontario and Quebec, winning its peace essay contest with her submission,
entitled “Kindness Matters”. Her essay now goes onto Milan, Italy this summer for international
competition. Ansley was recently presented with a plaque for her efforts by the Blyth Lions
Club’s Youth Opportunities Chair Shawn Loughlin and Blyth Lions Club President Barney

JIM FRANCIS SILLS
Surrounded by the love of his
family, with the singing of “Amazing
Grace” filling the air, James Francis
Sills, passed away at London Health
Sciences Centre, Victoria Campus
on Jan. 27, 2019.
In his 73 years among us, Jim
lived life with love for his family,
devotion to faith and service to our
community. Jim was a valued
source of service and wisdom on
Seaforth’s main street as the fourth
generation owner of Sills Hardware.
His wit and friendly demeanour
gifted all of us with a reason to
smile.
In death, his gifts as an organ
donor changed the lives of others in
ways beyond the description of
words.
Jim will be lovingly remembered
by his wife of 47 years Anne (née
Achilles) and their children Tracey
and Jeff McKee, Edward (Ted) Sills,
Donald (Don) and Lindsay Sills, and
Timothy (Tim) and Jennifer Sills. He
will be also fondly remembered by
Tara Sills.
Memories of a very special
grandpa will be cherished by
grandchildren Mitchell, Taylar,
Isaiah, Mathew, Jacob, Matteo,
Dinah, Ella, Leah, Lydia, Elena,
Margaret, and Ada.
Fond memories of a much-loved
brother remain with siblings and
siblings-in-law Anne and John
Mason, Mary and Gerald Townsend,
Jane and Leonard Muegge, Margaret
and Phil Beard, and Joan and Neil
Johnston, along with many nieces,
nephews and friends.
In faith, we trust Jim’s spirit is
now reunited in eternal life with his
parents Frank and Dinah Sills,
parents-in-law Rolly and Tennie
Achilles and siblings-in-law
Margaret Taylor and Don and Jerry
Achilles.
Visitation took place at McGlynn
Family Funeral Home, Seaforth on
Tuesday, Jan. 29, and Wednesday,
Jan. 30. Visitation continued on
Thursday, Jan. 31 at St. James
Catholic Church, Seaforth, followed
by a time to honour Jim’s life and
find comfort in our faith in a Mass of
Christian Burial, held at 11 a.m.
Father Clare Coleman presided.
Fellowship and refreshments
followed at a reception at Seaforth
Legion, Branch 156, Seaforth.
Burial will take place at St. James
Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to
Seaforth Community Hospital
Foundation, Trillium Gift of Life,
The Heart and Stroke Foundation or
St. James Church Building Fund
would be appreciated by the family.

WAYNE CHARLES PICKARD
Wayne Charles Pickard of Clinton
passed away peacefully at Clinton
Public Hospital, Clinton, on
Monday, Jan. 21, 2019. He was in
his 66th year.
Wayne was the dearly loved son of
Ruth and the late Don Pickard. He
was the loving brother of Diane and
Dereck Stephenson of Cambridge,
Deb and James McKay of Barrie,
and Donna and Jeff Armstrong of
Clinton. Wayne was the dear
nephew of Joan and Jim Chalmers of
Blyth, and Mary Nivins of
Kitchener. He will also be
remembered and missed by several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Wayne’s request, cremation has
taken place. Friends and family
attended a celebration of Wayne’s
life at the Clinton Legion on Friday
Jan. 25.
Memorial donations to the charity
of one’s choice would be
appreciated.

BRUCE BAUKE BERGSMA
Bruce Bauke Bergsma of
Londesborough passed away
suddenly at Clinton Public Hospital,
on Wednesday Jan. 23, 2019. He was
in his 77th year.
He was the beloved husband of
Marie Bergsma for 53 years. Bruce
was the loving father of Joan and
Mark Ryan of Mt. Carmel, Audrey
Bergsma and Michael Scott of
Goderich, Melvin and Karen
Bergsma of Tavistock, Grant and
Sandy Bergsma of Londesborough,
Richard and Tracy Bergsma of
Blyth, Lawrence and Karen
Bergsma of Clinton, Sharon and
Heike Hofman of Gorrie, Darrell
and Amanda Bergsma of Goderich,
and Karen and Frank Gerretsen of
Listowel. He is also loved and
missed by his grandchildren,
Leanne, Shannon, Shawn, Dean,
Austin, Julie, Jacob, Jared, Lucas,
Brook, Patrick, Emily, Kaitlyn and
Cai, Curtis, Sam, Leah, Naomi, Ben,
Nicole, Sean, Courtney, Derek,
Kirsten, Jason, Janelle, Cheyenne,
Dylan, Bianca, Kyle and Logan.
Bruce was predeceased by his
parents Bauke Bergsma and Johanna
Salverda, and remembered by Mike
Salverda, sisters Nellie and Lewie
Pol, Betty and Anno Otten, Joann
and George Lubbers, and brothers
Neil and Ailene Salverda, Ed and
Lori Salverda, and Adrian and
Dorothy Salverda.
Friends were received at Falconer
Funeral Homes – Clinton Chapel,
Jan 27. The funeral service was held
at the Central Huron Community
Complex – Libro Hall on Monday
Jan. 28. Spring Interment Burns
Cemetery, Hullett Twp.

SUSAN MAY HOPE
Susan May Hope (née Mackenzie)
of Toronto passed away peacefully
with her loving family by her side at
Jessica’s House Hospice in Exeter
on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019. Born
in Toronto on April 14, 1942, Susan
was in her 77th year.
The beloved wife of the late Noel
Hope (Nov. 11, 2002), Susan was the
loving sister of Carol Armstrong
(Jim) of Blyth, formerly of Hanover.
She will also be missed by her nieces
and nephews, William Armstrong
(Patricia), Elizabeth Lant (Michael),
Karen Johnston (Campbell),
Deborah Falconer (Les), Wendy
Armstrong-Gibson (John), and
families.
Susan was predeceased by her
parents Donald and Millicent
Mackenzie.
In keeping with Susan’s wishes,
cremation has taken place and a
private graveside service will be held
at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in
Toronto at a later date.
