Huether bears flag
at Senior Games
We stand corrected on the hospital
Jane Hall is in. She is in Wingham
hospital, but as we know, that can
change by the time the paper is
published. We send her get-well
wishes from all her Brussels friends.
Mel McCutcheon is in hospital at
this time and we hope he is
improving.
Hullett-McKillop Road is a family
short these days. Glenn and Marilyn
Beuermann have moved to Seaforth
for their retirement. They sold the
farm and we will wait to see who the
new folks are. Congratulations and
we hope they enjoy their new home!
Congratulations to Bert and Carol
Reinink on becoming first-time
grandparents. Their son Jamie and
wife Stephanie have welcomed a
baby girl to their lives. Marly Marie
is a beautiful little girl for them to
love. Congratulations to the new
parents and I am sure Bert and Carol
will spoil her!
A Brussels native, Dave Huether,
has returned from the Canadian
Senior Games, hosted in Saint John,
New Brunswick. Dave is the general
manager of the Brampton Sports
Unlimited Senior Falcons 55+, 60+
and 65+ ice hockey teams. Dave
had the great honour of being asked
by the Director of Ontario to be the
flag-bearer for Ontario for the 500
Ontario athletes at the opening
ceremonies into the Harbour Station
Arena in Saint John on Aug. 21.
The Brampton teams were very
successful with the 55+ team
winning gold, the 60+ team winning
gold and the 65+ won the bronze.
It was a great time for all and there
were close to 3,000 athletes and
guests attending the closing
ceremonies banquet. The 2020
games will be held in Kamloops,
British Columbia and the
Brampton teams have every
intention of representing Ontario
again. Congratulations to Dave
and his teams for making Ontario
proud!
Dave and his wife Angela stopped
in to see Joanne (Knight) and
Weldon Black upon arrival in New
Brunswick. They were scouting out
the “must-see” spots and eateries for
the team to visit while there and
Joanne and Weldon were happy to
make suggestions.
Brett and Laura Fischer held their
Pioneer customer appreciation
evening at the Four Winds Barn last
week. A lovely meal was provided
by them with the Brussels Optimist
Club cooking the meat and the talent
of Beth Earl, friends and family
doing the rest. They had guest
speaker Dianne O’Shea of the Lucan
area speak on “Eating is an
Agricultural Activity”. Everything
we eat is related to agriculture in
some way and as farmers we must
support one another, promote one
another and be proud of one another.
An interesting evening and thanks to
Brett and Laura and Pioneer!
Congratulations to Murray and
Ruth Lowe on celebrating 50 years
of marriage. It’s a hard-to-believe
fact for those who know Murray!
But for all his blustery out bursts,
Murray is really a great guy and
Ruth a fun-loving soul. They have
two great children in John and
Nicole, both involved citizens in the
village of Brussels. The family
gathered, along with many members
of the extended family, for a
delicious anniversary dinner at the
White Carnation. Congrats to
Murray and Ruth!
The Brussels birthday girls group
gathered last week at JR’s for a
delicious dinner to celebrate the
birthdays of August. There are two
ladies who celebrate in August, Nora
Stephenson, who attended, and
Marg Work, who was unable to
attend. Helping Nora celebrate were
Marci Bremner, Isabel Wheeler,
Merle Cousins, Betty Campbell,
Betty McCutcheon, Laura Barbour,
Bev Palmer, Nelva Scott, Jean
Davidson, Alice Marks, Sandra
Cable, Joan Bernard, Edna
McLellan and Eleanor Stevenson.
Happy birthday to Nora and Marg!
Nora Stephenson has been a busy
birthday girl with company, dinners
out and flowers arriving all week.
She had a lovely dinner out with her
granddaughter, friends arrived for a
social time, hot dogs at Joan and
Neil’s and more visits from local
ladies and friends.
Our family has had more family
from the west arrive and spend some
holidays in Ontario. Our nephew
Mike Warwick and his son Brycen
arrived last Thursday evening and
his wife Chrissy and daughter
Sydney, arrived on Sunday evening.
Karen and her daughter Kendra and
her daughter Gabriella left on
Aug. 27 and Neil is still here.
The Warwick family spent a
few days at Niagara Falls before
coming to stay in Bayfield. They
headed to Hanover to visit with
cousin Bruce and Linda and then
back to Walton for supper with the
McDonalds.
They spent Friday exploring
Bayfield and Saturday it was a beach
day for the ladies and coming to the
farm for the boys. The family
gathered at LeeAnn and Craig’s for
supper Saturday evening and then it
was time to say goodbye.
The Warwicks left Sunday to
return to Calgary after their week or
so in Ontario and Neil McDonald
returned to Vancouver Wednesday.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Mary Lou Driscoll,
Vicki Carter, Jaedon O’Neill, Brent
Pryce, Shirley Williamson Skinner,
Gabriella Sanchez Warwick, Barb
Finlayson, Joelle Glanville, Terry
Thompson, Kim Humphries, Daniel
Forbes, James Emmrich, Bryan

Happy birthday to all!
