PAGE 20. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 23, 2018. Continued from page 19 across and clearly enjoyed working with one another. It was obvious to those in the audience that the three actors had a good time collaborating on the show, and that goodwill shone through in the finished product. When I started this review, I said the show was delightful and weird, which is exactly how a Young Company production should be. That’s because the Young Company shows aren’t designed to sell tons of tickets or please everyone who might make their way into the audience. The program is about encouraging youth to explore their creative side and write and perform a play that is entirely theirs. The cast performed HC Kid three times at the Phillips Studio last week from Aug. 16-18. In addition, when addressing the on-site water capacity, the department said it would only allow 65 people, including staff. The water capacity issue was flagged by the department early in the process. With two houses and a farm workers’ quarters on the site, there is only so much water to go around, Van Amersfoort said. If the venue was to be hosting over 100 people for a wedding, she felt the water use would be unsustainable. If the Terpstras wanted to increase the capacity, they would have to go through the Ministry of the Environment and conduct a study to ensure that the property could manage that much water being used. However, Van Amersfoort said, that was a path the Terpstras didn’t want to take, with that study estimated to cost at least $80,000. Van Amersfoort did say that there were ways for the Terpstras to increase their capacity on the property if they were to decommission one of the houses or the workers’ quarters, which would free up water capacity and allow the venue to welcome more guests. She said that the water-taking figures for people living in those homes and workers’ quarters were higher than event guests because those living on the property would be showering and doing laundry, as opposed to event guests who would simply be using the washroom. She also said that the Terpstras agreed to end the majority of events by 11 p.m. with occasional events being allowed to go until 2 a.m. The problem, Van Amersfoort said, was still compatibility. She said councillors had to decide whether this would be classified as an on- farm diversified use and whether it fit with neighbouring properties. Since the last meeting the project was discussed, Councillor Alvin McLellan said he had received a number of comments of concern regarding the project. He said that neighbours were worried about increased traffic on rural roads, dozens of cars’ headlights late at night when an event ends, drunk and unruly behaviour from guests and just an overall concern that an event venue surrounded by farms would lead to compatibility issues. McLellan also said that comparisons between the Terpstra project and the Four Winds Barn weren’t necessarily accurate. He said that while the Four Winds Barn went through Huron East Council and the process was rather public, with the Terpstra project McLellan said that many neighbours felt it was being forced upon them with little to no consultation. While the planning department was now supportive of the amended application, council unanimously voted against it. Council puts brakes on Terpstra venue A helping hand After a heavy, steady rain on Friday morning, the Walton Raceway needed a little clean-up. After a brief break, action resumed on the final day of amateur competition, but there were still a few spills in the loose, wet mud. However, when a rider did hit the dirt, there was plenty of support nearby to get them up and running again with minimal interruption to the action.
