Community mourns sudden loss of Ruth Vincent
Villagers learned last week of the
sudden passing of Ruth Vincent. She
was 93 years old.
Ruth and Clare raised their family,
Don, Bill and Elaine, on the farm
which is now home to Greyhaven
Gardens. In later years Ruth worked
as librarian/secretary at Central
Huron Secondary School. Ruth had
a lovely singing voice and shared her
love of music with Londesborough
United Church and the Blyth
Festival Singers.
Ruth lived for some years at
Goderich Place but at the time of her
passing was a resident of Huronlea
in Brussels. Condolences are
extended to her family.
I have just learned that Ann Potter
has been a patient at Wingham and
District Hospital for several weeks.
She might appreciate a card or a
visit.
Bradley Greidanus and Jessica
Duizer exchanged marriage vows on
Saturday, Aug. 11. It was a lovely
sunny day for the ceremony held
outdoors at the home of Gary and
Chris Courtney. The reception was at
the Blyth Cowbell Brewing
Company.
Brad and Jess have done major
renovations on the house at the main
corner of Londesborough. That
house was previously owned by
Clara Riley, an aunt of Jess’
grandmother, Marjorie Duizer.
Grandpa Tom gave Brad and Jess his
blessings years ago and it is a
certainty he was smiling down on
them at their wedding.
It’s wonderful to have a family
with so many ties to the village make
their home here. Congratulations
and best wishes from the village
folk!
Elly Dow will lead the morning
worship at Londesborough United
again this coming Sunday, Aug. 26.

Championship game against Mitchell, losing by two runs to place second in the division. Back

Squirts earn bronze at year-end
The Londesborough Squirt girls
participated in their league’s year-
end tournament on Aug. 10-12. The
Londesborough girls played all of
their games in Parkhill.
The team plays in the Huron Perth
Girls Fastball League, which was
made up of 21 teams in three
divisions. By finishing second in
their division during the regular
season, the team qualified for the top
or A division for the tournament,
which included the top seven teams
from the 21-team league.
These teams included Tillsonburg,
two Exeter teams, Tavistock,
Stratford, Fullarton and
Londesborough.
The Londesborough team lost to
an undefeated Tavistock team in
their first game but defeated Exeter
in their second game by a score of
12-9. Due to the way the tournament
was set up, they had to play the same
Exeter team in the third game. The
game was tied after the teams hit the
tie limit so they ended up playing
two extra innings, with
Londesborough eventually winning
by one run.
The team then moved to a semi-
final game and played Tavistock a
second time. They lost this exciting
game 6-5. Due to the loss, they only
played for the bronze medal against
Tillsonburg but played hard and won
12-9 again.
The team consisted of girls from
Londesborough, Blyth, Goderich,
Clinton and Seaforth. Local players
were Ashley and Cassie Elliott,
Audrey Krueger, Myra Caldwell and
Natalie Stewart. The coaches were
Steve Stewart, Jenn Elliott and Jana
Dietner.
