Social Contract
cuts backs
The Huron-Perth Roman
Catholic Secondary School Board
has received assistance from their
teachers in reaching the Social
Contract target.
The teachers agreed on Dec. 9, to
increase the pupil-teacher ratio
from 17.5 to 18.6, thus eliminating
11 full-time teaching positions
throughout the 17 elementary
schools in the system.
This will help the board cut
$657,000 from the $33.5 million
budget.
Superintendent Gaetan Blanch-
ette says he doesn't expect anyone
to lose their job. The positions will
be removed through attrition and
many at the principal and vice-prin-
cipal level.
This will limit the effect on the
classroom, he says.
"We feel funding won't be any
more in 1996. The eliminations of
these positions will be a permanent
saving for the board."

In the second period Belgrave
notched three more. Mullin led the
way assisted by Fenton and Robin-
son, then Robinson assisted on a
Campbell goal and came back to
score the third period goal. With
just 29 seconds left, Bayfield got
on the board.
Brussels didn't let up on the
Mitchell team shutting them out in
the third period while scoring five
more goals. Scoring was Darrell
McClure with three goals and
assists to Dilworth, McCallum,
Hemingway and Krotz, two. An
unassisted goal went to Krotz and
the final goal was off the stick of
Hemingway with assists to
Campbell and Hunter. Final score

Things got interesting in the third

ones, but Kevin Hopf tagged on
two more for Belgrave, with an
assist to Dave Wray to provide
some insurance. Bayfield managed
one more before the finish, but it
was too little too late.

Brussels only had nine players
but they played hard all game. Ken
McCallum played in goal.
Brussels next game was at home
hosting Zurich on Dec. 17 at
6:30 p.m. The Brussels team started
off slowly allowing Zurich to score
first in the first period. Brussels
finally tied the score at one apiece
late in the period, but Zurich turned
around and scored again to lead
2-1. Krotz scored a goal unassisted.
Brussels which turned it around
in the remaining two periods by
strong defensive and offensive
playing, scored twice in the second
period on goals by Dilworth,
assisted by Matt Clarkson and two
by Krotz, who was assisted on the
second by Darrell McClure.
