Catholic school teachers aid Social Contract cuts backs The Huron-Perth Roman Catholic Secondary School Board has received assistance from their teachers in reaching the Social Contract target. The teachers agreed on Dec. 9, to increase the pupil-teacher ratio from 17.5 to 18.6, thus eliminating 11 full-time teaching positions throughout the 17 elementary schools in the system. This will help the board cut $657,000 from the $33.5 million budget. Superintendent Gaetan Blanch- ette says he doesn't expect anyone to lose their job. The positions will be removed through attrition and many at the principal and vice-prin- cipal level. This will limit the effect on the classroom, he says. "We feel funding won't be any more in 1996. The eliminations of these positions will be a permanent saving for the board." with a score of 8-2.
