Brandy Banks and Jeff Hunt will greet Dec. 24 and Geoffrey Banks and Robbie McClure will greet Dec. 26. Musical talents of Margery, Phyllis and Glenda were in full swing this morning as they played Christmas carols. It's worth coming early just to hear them play. The proceeds of these luncheons go towards maintaining the Walton Hall for the community. The ladies met that evening at Ruth Axtmann's for their meeting and Christmas party. The members enjoyed singing carols and testing their vocabularies with a Christmas carol quiz. The Walton WI branch welcomes anyone interested in joining. The organization emphasizes self- development and dedication for home and country. they meet next on Jan. 19. B The news from elgrave Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone tia7mai Mrs. Clarence Yuill returned home last Wednesday from a three- week visit with her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Philip Feeley in Surrey, British Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bieman, Kent, Blair and Susan held Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 19 for the Bieman relatives. Twenty-four people were present from Kincardine, Clinton, Wingham and Belgrave. Euchre The Belgrave weekly euchre was held last Wednesday evening with 13 tables in play. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Mabel Lamont; second high, Mrs. Agnes Bieman; most lone hands, Mrs. Olive Bolt; low lady, Mrs. Alice Nicholson; high man, George Johnston; second high, George Inglis; most lone hands, Tom Pfeiffer and low man, John King. This is the last euchre until Jan. 5. A Merry Christmas to all. Gospel lesson, Luke 1: 26-38. Rev. Banks's sermon was called "Mary, Mary not contrary." The next addition of The Citizen comes out in the first week of January. So to report what went on at the Christmas eve service would be old news, therefore I'll report on it now. The Christmas Eve service is Dec. 24 at 7:30 and you'll hear both the Junior and Senior choirs sing their Christmas anthems. You'll witness the drama called 'The Birth of Love and Hope in a Manger'. There you will meet Gabriel (Craig Hackwell) and Mary (Colleen McCallum). Joseph (Chad McCallum) and Zechariah (John Uyl), along with Elizabeth (Tama Smith) will be there too. The shepherds (Geoff Banks and Tadd Smith) will be there and narrator and Luke (Rev. Banks) has a big scene also. You'll enjoy singing many of the old Christmas hymns and hear various scripture readings. On Dec. 26 you will hear Rev. Banks deliver his Christmas sermon. The Senior choir as well as the Godkin sisters will sing. Mrs. Roberts host UCW The Afternoon Unit of the UCW met at 'the home of Mrs. John Roberts Dec. 13 with 13 ladies and Rev. Paul Boughton in attendance. Mrs. Audrey Fenton conducted the business portion of the meeting then turned the meeting over to Mrs. Mary Hunter who led a very meaningful relaxed service. The theme was "Memories of Christmas". Mrs. Ida Procter read the Christmas Story as told in Luke, chapter 2 following which each member related some of their early memories of Christmas. The Ethel Hall board members hosted the Christmas euchre Mon- day evening at the Ethel Hall. There were 14 tables in play. The 50/50 winner was Jean Conley; high man, Ken Crawford; high lady, Lois McLean; low man, Wal- ter Harrifield; low lady, Annie Wight; most lone hands, Shirley Verstoep, Ken Smith; tally card draws, Adrian Verstoep, Lorne Lambkin, Jim McGuillawec, Hazel McKenzie, Margaret Long, Mac Smith, Charlie Harrison, Ruby Armstrong, Jean Conley, Joe Mar- tin, Freda Darcey, Ross Stephen- "Oh who are the people in your neighbourhood?" is the Sesame Street song that inspired me to check on a few neighbours to see if they had any Christmas wishes for the Walton community. 'Right across the road is Neil McGavin, who had some very wise words — 'Slow down and enjoy our beautiful world.' Mail ladies Judy Emmrich and Dorothy Sholdice wish everyone a very peaceful and happy Christmas and if it has to snow may it not land on roads or especially in front of mail boxes. Clarence Flood wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday and he would sure like to see some snow. Down at the Walton Inn, Karl MacNaughton wished for peace and joy and that everyone would get along in this world and would have enough of everything. Tyce and BJ DeJong wish everyone the best. Over at Cooks, Dave Wheeler wants everyone to drive safely and have a happy Christmas. Louise Wilson on behalf of herself and staff members of Walton Public School, wishes everyone a merry Christmas and hopes it will be a time for families to share together in the peace and joy of the season. UCW meets The UCW presented shut-ins Lavina Watson, Queensway, Hensall; Ernie Stevens, Huronview, Clinton; Mildred Blake, Albina Gulutzen, ,Sadie McDonald, Rammeloo, Blyth; Rolly Achilles, Walton with a special hello and Christmas gift. son, Dorothy Martin, and Jack Conley. Basket of jams from Glen Farms was won by Bob Bateman. The Hall Board wishes all card party supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hopes to see all the players again in 1994.
