In a move that may shock and
dismay the people of Brussels and
area, the executive committee of
the Brussels Bulls has put forth a
The Brussels Bulls took on the
top teams in the Western Junior C
league this weekend and while the
club came away with only one
point coach Scott Pettigrew thought
his team showed a lot of character.
Friday night the Bulls travelled to
Wingham but came up just short,
losing 6 - 5 to the second place
Ironmen. Greg McNevan paced the
attack with two goals and two
assists while Josh Alexander,
Jeremy Beimes and Brian Zabel
picked up singles. Brussels got off
to a slow start giving up four goals
in the first period as goalie Scott
Walls struggled playing with an
injured ankle. He was replaced by
Art Houghton at the start of the
second, but Houghton hurt his knee
five minutes into the third period
forcing Walls back into the net.
The Bulls pressed hard and pulled
to within one on a powerplay with
1:22 remaining. However, the Bulls
could not manage the equalizer in
the dying seconds.
Pettigrew was pleased with his
club's effort. "We were missing
seven pretty good hockey players
due to exams and injuries and both
our goalies were not healthy.
Wingham is battling for first but I
thought we stayed right with them."
Midgets Ryan Finch and Chris
Stevenson were called and played
well, seeing spot duty.
Sunday the Bulls hosted the first
place Mt. Forest Patriots and
managed a 3-3 tie. The Brussels
lineup did not look much better

down Milverton
The Brussels Novice Rep team
travelled to Milverton on Dec. 10
for a 7 p.m. game. A strong third
period for Brussels insured their
win 6-1.
Brussels scored the lone goal of
the first period with Lee Dilworth
hitting the mark assisted by Darryl
Houston. The second period saw
both teams play very well,
.exchanging goals. Brussels' goal
was scored unassisted by Nolan
Krotz. Brussels owned the third
period, scoring four goals to insure
the win. Goals were scored by
Dilworth, assisted by Krotz, Mark
Hunter assisted by Joel Hemingway
and two unassisted by Krotz.
First period goals for Belgrave
were scored by Tyler Fenton,
assisted by Tom Mullin and Tim
Robinson, and by Justin Campbell.

motion which intends to seek the
interest of other communities for
the ownership of the team.
Board member, Joe Kerr says the
with eight regulars missing,
including four defencemen. Jamie
Williams, who logged a ton of ice
time, picked up his first goal of the
season. Pete Mulder banged home a
loose puck after a great effort by
Jeremy Beimes to beat the Patriots
Defenceman to a loose puck. The
tying goal came from Brad
Beuerman, who tucked home a
nifty pass from Peter Ryter.
Beuerman and Mike MacKay were
called up from the Brussels
Juveniles and Bantam goalie Jamie
Thomas was dressed to backup
Scott Walls.
The Bulls next action is Tuesday,
Dec. 28 at 8:30 when the team
hosts the Wingham Ironmen. The
Hanover Barons visit Brussels on
Dec. 30, again at 8:30 p.m.
Notes: Four members of the
Brussels Bulls have been named to
the Western Junior C all star team.
Top scorers Greg McNevan and
Nate Bender will be joined by
defenceman Bill Henry and rookie
Goalie Scott Walls. Henry is
recovering from a broken hand but
still hopes to play. The game will
be Jan. 8 in Durham against the Jr
B Stratford Cullitons.
executive came to the decision at
the Dec. 16 meeting when the
financial situation of the team was
discussed.
"In light of the ever depleting
financial funds, the inability to
attract new executive members, the
declining fan support for the team
and the general lack of interest
from the community for junior
hockey," it is necessary to look at
alernatives, says Mr. Kerr.
The board has set up a task force
to "identify prospective communi-
ties that would possibly be interest-
ed in the purchase or transfer of
this OHA JR. hockey franchise," a
press release stated.
Mr. Kerr says, the three member
task has just been set up and they
have no definite time limit for their
investigation. "If the team is to stay
in Brussels however, the decision
would have to be made by early
spring so preparations could begin
for the following season."
"The team has cut expenses to
the bare bone and it is still not
working out. Some of the players
need new equipment which we
can't afford to provide for them,"
says Mr. Kerr. "We have no more
corners to turn into."
Mr. Kerr estimates that the Bulls
would have to draw an additional
100 adults to each home game to
make the team viable. "Not even
the free tickets which were given to
advertisers are being used," he
says.
