N. 887-6173 A Christmas melody Elgin Knott, left and Warren Whitmore of Marie Flynn and the Huron Strings entertained the residents of Huronlea in Brussels on Dec. 20 with some Christmas favourites, dancing and singing. Brussels People A family gathering on Saturday, Dec. 18 at the home of Cameron Ross and Barbara was held to celebrate Christmas. Present was her sister Marlene and Ken Fosberg of London, Daryll and Carol and Alexandra Ingrey of Hidden Valley, Darlene and Korrie Dejournett of London and her mother, Mrs. Mel Jacklin and her husband of Brussels as well as other family members. Morning Star plans party The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge took place on Tuesday, Dec. 14. There was a good attendance. A donation was made to The Ark to promote youth work in the community. District Deputy President Jean Hodgert will visit the Lodge on Jan. 11. The Annual Christmas party is to be held on Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lodge rooms. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1993. 14 attend Friendship Club's Christmas pot luck meeting Fourteen Friendship Club members and one visitors enjoyed a bountiful pot luck dinner at 12:30 p.m. in Brussels Legion recently. Sarah Stephenson presided for the meeting, which included an invitation on Jan. 11 to Huronlea. It was moved by Adah Smith and seconded by Ruby Steiss that members attend with Adah Smith and Mary Lowe to arrange a short program. Ethel Brewer reported on the "Geared to Seniors" seminar held Saturday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. in Harriston which she and Mary Lowe attended. They were pleased to have the opportunity to attend this informative meeting. Mary Lowe was given authority The Christmas meeting of Melville WMS was held in the home of Gerald and Isobel Gibson. President Helen Elliott opened the meeting with prayer. The hymn "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" was sung. The secretary's report was given by Ruby Steiss and Marguerite Krauter gave the treasurer's report. There is a meeting in January. Members are reminded to save greetings cards, used stamps and IGA tapes. The hymn "Away in a Manger" was sung. The scripture from Luke 1, verses 26-38 was read by Leona Armstrong. The meditation on the birth of Jesus and Mary his mother The fourth Advent candle was lit at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship on Sunday, Dec. 19 by Sarah Garland, assisted by her father, Elwin Garland. The children of the congregation, under the leadership of their Sunday School teachers, put on a program during the usual worship service time. Mike Hiller was worship leader. On Sunday afternoon, Tom and Andrea Warner and family hosted Community Dining for Seniors and Physically Challenged Adults held its Christmas meeting on Dec. 9 with 42 in attendance. A full-course turkey dinner with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to student volunteers Jason Kellington, Amy Crawford and Cory Bragg. Door prizes were won by Keith Turnbull, Ruth Galbraith, Merle Underwood, Betty Dale, Doris Hooper and Laura Fischer. The 50/50 draw was won by Mary Davidson. Sarah read "Christmas Star" which was interspersed with Jeanne playing "Star of the East". Mary Lowe and Ethel Brewer presented a skit entitled "It Won't Be Long Now", followed by Mary Lowe reading "Christmas Puppy". The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Maple Villa at 2 p.m. Euchre followed. Winners were: high man, Mary Davidson; low man, Eluned McNair; high lady, Thelma Keffer and low lady, Marguerite Crawford. was given by Helen Elliott. A card was signed for Ruth Martin who was a WMS member and is now living in Livingston Manor in Listowel. Ruby Steiss had the members guessing Christmas Carols. Isobel Gibson gave a reading on "Just Mary and Joseph". Leona Armstrong read, "Do You See a Great Light". Thelma Cardiff read "There is no Time like Christmas" and "The First Christmas Stocking" and Marguerite Krauter read "Let's Stop Whining about Christmas". Helen Elliott read "No Room in the Inn" and closed the meeting with prayer. A lovely Christmas lunch was served and a social time enjoyed. an open house for the congregation. A Christmas Eve service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at the church. The community praise used the theme of gift giving, at their Dec. 18 service. Carol Goodland told a children's story about Saint Nick. This group also lit the fourth Advent candle. There will be no Community Praise service on Dec. 25. group for a carol sing. Rather than exchange gifts, the group brought canned goods which will be distributed to needy families. A Christmas video was shown after dinner.
