Sunday morning service at
Bluevale United Church was
observed as the first Sunday of the
Advent season, with Rev. Banks
officiating. Corey Chapman,
assisted by his mother Laurie, lit
the first advent candle, the Candle
of Hope.
The Jesse Tree, which had been
decorated by the Sunday School
teachers and children, helped to
usher in the Christmas season. Rev.
Banks gathered the children at the
front and gave them each a book
entitled "Let's Go to Bethlehem".
They are to cut out a section each
day, read the story on it and make
an Advent Chain before Christmas.
The children's hymn was "Give Me
Oil in My Lamp".
Rev. Banks expressed his
appreciation for the gift of an
Advent Stole, made and given by
the Bluevale UCW.
Ann Garniss read the scripture
from Mark 13: 24-37. Fleming
Johnston and George Fisher were
ushers.
Advent Communion was served
by Shirley Nicholson, Ken
Mathers, Harold Johnston and
Doug Garniss.
Section 6 of Bible Study, the
Women Disciples, will be held at
Bluevale Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. The
Community Carol Service will be
held Dec. 12 at Knox Presbyterian
Church at 7:30 p.m.
O bituaries
L. MURRAY SCRIMGEOUR
Lorne Murray Scrimgeour of the
Queen's Villa Apartments in Blyth,
passed away Nov. 29, 1993 at Clin-
ton Public Hospital.
Mr. Scrimgeour was born in
Blyth, 79 years ago, to the late
Lorne and Emma Scrimgeour.
He was a member of the Blyth
United Church and the Tillsonburg
Masonic Lodge. He worked as a
service manager for the Ford Motor
Company.
Mr. Scrimgeour was married to
the late Gladys Pawson (1973).
He will be sadly missed by his
children Dianne and Lou Schnalzer
and grandchildren Lisa and Randy
Missen and Lou and Melinda
Schnalzer.
He was the loving great grandfa-
ther of Lana Missen.
Mr. Scrimgeour was the beloved
brother of Verne and Charles Dakin
of Blyth, Margaret Marks of Wind-
sor and Everett Scrimgeour of
Blyth.
He was predeceased by one sis-
ter, Hazel Baxter and two brothers,
Frank and Cliff Scrimgeour.
The Blyth Masonic Lodge #303
held a memorial service on Nov.
30.
Rev. Jock Tolmay officiated at
the funeral services which were
held on Dec. 1 at the Tasker Chapel
of the Beattie-Falconer Funeral
Home in Clinton.
MARJORY KEFFER
Marjory Keffer of Brussels
passed away on Sunday Dec. 5,
1993 at Listowel Memorial Hospi-
tal. She was in her 81st year.
She was the beloved wife of the
late Wilfred Keffer and the loving
mother of Alex and Eva Keffer of
Brussels and Rita and Stanley Mor-
rison of Fullerton.
Mrs. Keffer was the loved grand-
mother of Debbie Cloakey and
Rhonda Fischer and four great
grandchildren.
She is survived by two sisters
and predeceased by two sisters and
two brothers.
At the request of the family, there
will be no funeral home visitation.
Cremation has taken place.
In remembrance, donations to the
Canadian Cancer Society would be
appreciated and can be made
through the Betts Funeral Home,
Brussels.
ELSIE H. SHADDICK
A former Londesboro resident
Elsie Shaddick passed away at Ritz
Lutheran Villa, Mitchell on Satur-
day, Dec. 4, 1993. She was 82.
Born in Clinton Mrs. Shaddick
was the dear daughter of the late
Charles H. and Alice Manning. She
was the beloved wife of Joseph
Richard Shaddick, who prede-
ceased her on Aug. 10, 1986. Her
children John L. Shaddick of
Rob Demaray was worship
leader on Sunday, Dec. 5, at
Brussels Mennonite Fellowship
Evelyn and Zachary Horne,
assisted by their father, Bill, lit the
two advent candles. Pastor Tom
Warner preached from Titus 2: 1-
15. We must be ready for the
Second Coming of Christ.
The Sunday School started a new
quarter. The electives for the adults
Community Dining for Seniors
and Physically Challenged Adults
was held at Brussels United Church
on Nov. 25 with 29 people in
attendance.
A luscious meal of scalloped
potatoes and ham was prepared by
cook Millie, and served with the
help of student volunteers: Cory
Smith, Tanya Mawhinney and
Jeremy Clark. Dessert was angel
food cake and birthday wishes were
sung.
Two door prize draws were made
with winners being Pat Watson and
Lydia Turnbull. Isabel Alcock won
the 50/50 draw.
Goderich and William and Beverly
Shaddick of Londesboro mourn her
passing. She will be sadly missed
by seven grandchildren, Debbie
and Michael Vieira, Paul, Daniel
and Lisa Shaddick and Richard
Shaddick. A great grandson Lane
Vieira also survives her.
Mrs. Shaddick was a member of
Londesboro United Church.
A private family funeral was held
on Dec. 6 at the Tasker Chapel of
the Beattie-Falconer Funeral
Homes, Blyth, with Rev. Stan Mac-
Donald as officiating clergy.
Interment is a Blyth Union
Cemetery.

Adult Christian Dialogue.
The Senior Youth held a
Christmas dinner and party at the
Garland home on Sunday after
Sunday School. Both the Senior
and The Junior Youth have
activities planned for the coming
weekend.
Announcements included the
Christmas meeting to be held on
Dec. 9. As there is a limited
number of spaces available
reservations have been limited to
40. That will be the last meeting of
the year.
The next meeting will be held
Thursday, Jan. 13 and the
entertainment will be bingo.
Community Dining meets the
second and fourth Thursdays.
Reservations are necessary and
may be made by calling 887-6691,
887-6236 or 887-6044 by noon on
the Monday prior to the meal.
