THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1993. Crusaders take two The Brussels Crusaders enjoyed an excellent weekend of hockey, winning twice, while outscoring their opponents 20-6. Friday night in Milverton the Crusaders survived a shakey start (two goals against in the opening minutes of play) to post a 9-4 win. Dean Wheeler netted the hat- trick with Ron Strome and Brian Campbell scoring two each. Brad Carter and Jeff McKee completed the scoring for the Crusaders, who sealed the win with four ,unanswered third period goals. Sunday afternoon Brussels again gave up an early goal, then scored eight in a row enroute to an 11-2 win over the Wiarton Redmen. J.C. Hewitt, Carter and Steve Fritz, Wheeler and Campbell adding singles. Excellent goaltending by Trev Fortune in Milverton, and Derek Cooper, Sunday kept the Crusaders in both games early. The line of Steve Fritz, Strome and Wheeler enjoyed a nine goal, 22 point weekend while Hewitt added two goals and five assists. The Crusaders are on the road 'this weekend travelling to Elora Friday night and Drayton Sunday afternoon. As well, plans are underway for a Jan. 15 reunion game between the Crusaders and members of the 1980 intermediate Bulls. Be sure to watch for more details. For more information, call 1-800-563-WILD erk Canadian Wildlife Federation Krotz earns 5 points The Brussels Novice Rep team hosted Seaforth on Dec. 3 at 6:30. Brussels scored twice in the first period on two unassisted goals by Nolan Krotz, then scored twice again in the second, with a goal by Krotz assisted by Lee Dilworth and a goal by Darrell McClure assisted by Krotz and Brandon Dixon. Seaforth played a strong game and with good forechecking managed a goal in the third period by Kevin Murray. Brussels again scored twice only one minute apart on goals by Dilworth with assists to McClure and Krotz and by Ken McCallum, assisted by Kyle Stephenson and Mark Hunter. Final score was Brussels 6, Seaforth 1. Brussels had three new players from the Brussels Houseleague play for them this game and everyone had a very good game. Darryl Houston, who played his first game in net for Brussels did well. The next game is Dec. 10 with Brussels visiting Milverton at 7 p.m. OMHA and OHF settle dispute An agreement has been reached that ends the impasse which threatened to prevent thousands of minor hockey players in Ontario from participating in important national and provincial tournaments. Mediation efforts between the Ontario Minory Hockey Association (OMHA) and the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) concluded successfully Saturday, aided by a provincial mediator appointed last week. Ontario Minister of Culture, Tourism and Recreation Anne Swarbrick, who arranged for the meditation to take place, commended the efforts of the organizations who participated. "1 want to commend the OHF, the OMHA, the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) and their officials for putting the interests of the Ontario's young minor hockey players first and foremost. The goodwill of the parties involved played a vital role in ending the impasse." The OHF sanctions minor hockey tournaments in Ontario on behalf of the CAHA. The two Continued on page 9
