Blyth Atom Reps win
Bulls set sights on 3rd place
It's mine
Players on the Brussels Bulls and the Walkerton Blackhawks reach for the puck at the side of
the Walkerton net. The game on Nov. 28 was very physical, with several penalties by both
teams. Brussels lead at the end of the first 1-0 and earned the victory with a strong effort in
the third. The final score was 3-2.
The Brussels Bulls head into a
big weekend looking to move
closer to third place in the Western
Junior C standings. With a win and
a loss on the weekend the Bulls
now have 10 points, three back of
third place Hanover, but, with a
Blyth Tykes
beat
Hensall
The Blyth Tykes had a successful
hockey game in Hensall on
Saturday, Nov. 27.
Ryan McClinchey opened the
scoring, but Hensall quickly
responded with Danny Mass
scoring, despite some great goal-
tending efforts by Blyth's Tyler
Kernighan.
The Anderson brothers, Luke and
Cody, and Brett Bean made some
grand end-to-end rushes in an
attempt to score, however their
efforts were thwarted by the
Hensall goalie. Even Michelle
Cook's careful positioning and
accurate shooting was stopped.
Taylor Hesselwood's persistent
shooting and digging, however,
finally pulled Blyth ahead, by a
goal and Darcey Cook, a recruit
from the Blyth Beginners, added
the insurance goal.
Hensall tensed-up the game again
with Erik Lawrence scoring.
However, Justin Peters eased the
stress by delighting the fans with
his hockey ability, scoring four
unanswered goals, as well as
making some excellent defensive
plays. He was assisted by Tammy
Root and Christopher Bernard who
both contributed for the win.
Michelle Cook scored the final
goal to end the game and each
player earned praise for their
tireless efforts, from coaches Jeff
Peters and Doug McClinchey.

victory over Brussels in WOAA
Senior A hockey Sunday night.
The loss gives the Crusaders a
six win, four loss record at the
midway point of their schedule.

game in hand. Brussels will be in
Hanover Friday night at 8:30, then
travel to Walkerton Sunday
afternoon to play the fourth place
Blackhawks. The Hawks are just a
point up on Brussels with
Walkerton also playing one more
game.
Saturday night the Bulls dropped
an 8 - 6 decision to the Wingham
Ironmen. Brussels fell behind 4 - 1
in the first period but battled back
to even the score after 20 minutes.
Brian Zabel scored three times and
Pete Mulder intercepted a pass in
the Ironmen zone which he flipped
past Wingham Goalie Adam
Skillen.
In the second, the Ironmen again
went ahead 6 - 4. Bill Henry
scored the Bull's goal on a slapshot
from the blueline. The referee did
not immediately signal a goal but
after checking with his linesmen
ruled it a goal.
Brussels tied the score midway
through the third period when
defencemen Tim Beyer tipped a
pass from Greg Brown into the net
after jumping into the rush, but the
Bulls couldn't hang on. Wingham
scored with just under six minutes
remaining and then added an empty
netter with 28 seconds left on he
clock to seal the 8-6 win.
After a few hours of sleep the
Bulls were back at it Sunday
afternoon, but this time with a
better result. Brussels edged the
Walkerton Blackhawks 3-2 thanks
to a big third period effort.
Josh Alexander, who had been
moved up to the wing to fill in for
the injured Peter Ryter, banged
home a Jonathon Lane pass just
two minutes into the contest.
In the second period, Walkerton
went out in front 2-1 on a pair of
powerplay goals. The Bulls ran into
a rash of penalties and if not for
some excellent penalty killing and
some strong goaltending from Scott
Walls they would have been buried.
The Bulls got the spark they
needed from Greg Fritz in the third
period. The left winger was in front
of the net when he pounced on a
rebound and tucked it into the open
cage. All things considered, the
Bulls would have been happy with
the tie but Darin Alviano had other
ideas. The 16-year-old rookie
slipped a backhand past Hawk's
goalie Jon Biesenthal for the
winner with less than two minutes
remaining. Walkerton pulled their
goalie but the Bulls closed the
door.
