Lillian Hallam, Dorothy Grange and Ethel Ball conducted the worship. The hymn "He Touched Me" opened the service with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. Lillian read the scripture from St Peter. She then spoke on variety foods for good and evil for both the body and soul. Dorothy gave a reading "Ten Commandments for the Human Relay". The speaker for the evening, Ruth Ann Day and her assistant from the Day by Day, Natural Health Care of Goderich were introduced by Lillian. Ruth Ann Day is an RN who has branched out into Natural Healing, an alternative or complimentary medicine. Her father became ill and died in three weeks; the question, "Why" stayed with her, she said. Later she also was seriously ill but is well now. She found that love is a necessity for good health, love of others and also for yourself. It is Clare Smith of Goderich was guest soloist at Auburn Missionary Church on Sunday, Nov. 21. She sang, "Whatever He wants for Me His will I must Do" and "By His Love Compelled." Pastor Carne's message, Peace People Mrs. Ethel Ball returned recently from a trip to Egypt which included a cruise on the Nile and a visit to Rome. Visitors with Ruth and Tom Jardin last week were Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Jardin of Milton, Mrs. Ruth Beard of Mitchell and Mrs. Jean Lunn of Seaforth. Nice to see Ell Lapp out and about again after a long bout of being in, following surgery. The Remembrance Day meeting of the Auburn Presbyterian WMS was held at the home of President Martha Daer. Martha opened the meeting with the poem entitled "November". She welcomed all to the meeting. The Devotional period was taken by Lillian. The scripture portion was from St. Luke, chapter 15, verses 11-24 which was read alternately. The meditation was on lessons from "The Prodigal Son". The roll call was answered with a important to enjoy a basic sense of well being; be happy. Ruth Ann was thanked for her interesting speech and Marilyn Verbeek took over the business meeting. Treasurer Nancy Park gave her report. The UCW is behind in money for missions. Ruth Jardin gave her report. Laura May Chamney told about the tables being considered and it was decided to purchase 10. Two quilts, made by members, were on display and it was decided to give one to the Jacobs Well Ministry at Baden. The UCW is invited to a pot luck dinner at Londesboro on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. The speaker will be Alma Langford. Ann Vincent then gave the nominating committees' report and thanked all those who had accepted positions for the coming year. Marilyn offered prayer and the meeting closed with a delicious lunch served by Lillian, Dorothy and Ethel. and Prosperity of Pentecost" was from Acts 4: 32-35. The study was given by Marion Haggitt on the "First Fruits". Frances Clark gave E reading "In Flanders Fields", Several other readings were given. A card was given to Martha on the occasion of her and her husband Roy's 60th wedding anniversary. All recited the Lord's Prayer which ended the meeting. The Christmas meeting will be held at Frances Clark's home. The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held at the Community Hall on Thursday, Nov. 18. President Jean Plaetzer welcomed all and read a poem entitled "An Afternoon With Grandma". The Ode and Mary Stewart Collect were read and 0 Canada sung with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. There were 14 members and five guests. Maureen Bean spoke on the WI sign to be placed in Auburn, She showed one sketch by Jane Stryker which could be carved or painted on wood. She stated sizes and prices. Jean Plaetzer gave prices and sizes on a metal one. Walton has one in their village. A discussion took place on this. There was a discussion also on what the duties are for convenors of a meeting as well as the hostesses' duties. There will be a gift exchange of a 17 Silver Tops enjoy dinner There were 17 members of the Auburn Silver Tops at the pot luck dinner held on Wednesday, Nov.17 at the Community Hall. Hostesses were Kay Lapp, Betsy Verwey and Martha Daer. Speaker was Mrs. June Phillips of Dungannon, zone president. She spoke on seniors, medi care, low cost housing especially in the cities among other things pertaining to seniors' needs. Kay Lapp gave a reading on "Armistice Day" and Dorothy Grange also had one "A Creed For Living". The next meeting is to be Wednesday, Dec. 8 and will be dining out. HONOUR THE PAST... The roll call was "Bring a gift from a grandmother or grandchild. Marjorie McDougall convenor of Citizenship and World Affairs, introduced the speaker Lisa Pot of RR 3, Auburn. Her topic was on her work at a newspaper, free lancing, interviewing, dark room, developing and printing. She showed different things as she spoke. She worked at The Citizen in Blyth and Brussels. She stated colour prints can be used and made as black and white. Advertising and classifieds help pay for the paper. She showed how the front page of the Citizen was done and also the classifieds and colour presentation and also about communities calling their reporter about things happening in the area. This was a very interesting topic. Marjorie thanked her. Evelyn Flett read a poem "Recipe for a good Women's Institute" and she also had a contest "Name The Cake". Betty Archambault won the prize. Violet Dumin had a prize for the closest wedding anniversary and Mildred Lawlor's fell on that day. Lunch was served by Violet Durnin and Evelyn Flett and a social time was enjoyed. Euchre There were five tables of euchre played on Tuesday evening, Nov. 16 held at the Auburn Community Hall. Edgar Howatt was high man and low man was Len Shobbrook. High lady was Lillian Letherland and low lady was Kay Hesselwood. Special prize went to Bernice McClinchey.
