THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1993. By Janice Becker The ARK in Brussels is sponsor- ing a special Christmas fundraiser which will culminate in an evening filled with the spirit of an old-fash- ioned Christmas. Bonnie Gropp, ARK secretary says, "The evening will be an opportunity to take part in the spe- cial traditions of Christmas with Brussels People Following Saturday's terrible weather, Sunday's beautiful sunny day was much appreciated by Doreen Dale and Mildred Jacklin, who travelled with one of Cherrey's nine bus loads of people to the Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The two and a half hour show which included Tommy Hunter, George Jones and Janie Fricke provided excellent entertainment. A tour of the lights and time to browse through One of the Parkway's greenhouses as well as a delicious meal of our choice at "Betty's" in Chippewa was also included. There were nine tables in play at the euchre party sponsored by Morning Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels on Monday, Nov. 15. Winners were: high lady, Marguerite Sanderson; high man, Jim Smith; low lady, Mabel Bauer; low man, (playing as a man) Sarah Stephenson; lone hands, Garnet Nicholson; lucky ticket, Elunid McNair. A special guest has also promised to make an apearance. On Dec. 12 at 6:15, people are invited to gather at the ARK for carolling, candy treats for the chil- dren, hot cider, hot chocolate, friendship and fellowship. Then at 7 p.m. a tree will be lit with Christ- mas lights bought by the communi- ty, through the ARK's fundraising efforts. The tree has been donated by Con and Lois van Vliet of Blyth. The ARK is raising money by selling the lights for $2 a piece or a string for $15. "It's a unique gift for someone special," says Mrs. Gropp. "The lights can be bought as a memorial to a loved one, by children for their parents or a business can buy a string to thank the employees." With the purchase of each light comes a ticket which says "A light shines for" and a space to fill in that special person's name. This year's proceeds will go to maintaining the ARK. "It is our hope, as Christmas is a For more information, call 1-800-563-WILD Eflt Canadian Wildlife Federation time of giving, that this year's fundraiser will be a success so that it may continue and in the future we will find ourselves in a position to share the proceeds with a chari- ty," Mrs. Gropp says. In an effort to give something back and to contribute to the Bureau this year, a box will be available at the ARK each evening, beginning Dec. 2, for canned food and toy donations. To help illuminate the tree, lights may be purchased from members of the board of directors and at The Citizen office.
