invites applications for the position of
School Based Social Worker
The Huron County Board of Education, the Survival Through Friendship House and the
Children's Aid Society are working together to provide school-based social and ancillary
serviced, to children, young people and their families who are victims/witnesses of
woman abuse.
This position will provide counselling services to students referred from the Goderich
family of schools, the Survival Through Friendship House and the Children's Aid Society.
The focus of the service will be on prevention and early intervention.
The successful candidate will have a B.S.W. with a strong knowledge of child welfare
practice and the issue of woman abuse.
This is a seven month contract position with duties to start immediately.

Ever wondered why some people

The elements of positive
relationships will be explored at
F.E. Madill from Nov. 22 - 26.
Project initiator, Marguerite
Thomas public health nurse with
the Huron County Health Unit,
states that the focus will be to
encourage healthy lifestyle choices
and the development of positive
relationships.
The week's events have been
planned in partnerships with local
agencies and volunteer students,
staff and parents. Students will
decorate the school with signs,
sayings and slogans promoting
healthy relationships. On Monday,
Nov. 22 a student assembly will
feature folk singer Kim Souch,
sponsored by the Canadian Mental
Health Association.
Monday evening at 8 the Ontario
Secondary School Teachers
Federation invites the community
to the school library room to hear
guest speaker Roger McComb
speak about "Squeezing more out
of life." Tuesday and Thursday
participating teachers will integrate
healthy relationships themes into
the regular curriculum. On
Wednesday the theatrical produc-
tion 'Whenever I feed afraid' will
be presented by the Company of
Sirens. This will be followed by
local professionals leading a
reflective session and workshop to
examine not only the dynamics of
violence in relationships but also
what positive steps can be taker, to
develop positive relationships.
This event is sponsored by the
Board of Education and S.W.A.N.
(Stop Women Abuse Now),
coordinating committee against
women abuse, Huron County.
Friday will close the week with
Happy Events. Lunchtime will
feature exhibits from individuals,
groups and organizations who care
about teens. Music will be provided
along with an ice cream farewell to
this special week.
