CLEMENTINE ORANGES The Afternoon Unit of the UCW met in the church schoolroom on Nov. 8, with 12 present. Audrey Fenton, leader, gave a brief outline of the composition "Rock of Ages". Kay Roberts played the hymn, softly, as members sat in silence. "Onward Christian Soldiers" was sung followed by the reading of "In Flanders Fields". Mrs. Fenton gave a meditation on Love. She stated, "Love works in all experiences; practise love every day'". The singing of "Wonderful Love" and prayer closed the worship period. Following a welcome to all, the minutes of the October meeting and the treasurer's report were read. A letter of thanks for a donation to "Daily Bread" was read. Discussion relating to the Christmas program followed. Kay Roberts offered her home for the Christmas meeting with Mary Hunter in charge. Edith Vincent directed attention to noteworthy items in the mandate. Margaret Taylor chose Matthew 8: 18-22 for Bible Study. The Scribes followed Jesus. This is a Chapter of Miracles. Jesus was a suffering servant. His earthly life began in a borrowed stable, ended in a borrowed tomb. His life was always the way of the cross. The Mission Study by Kay Roberts centered on Mission and Reconciliation in Nicaragua where the Moravian Church is second to the Roman Catholic religion. Extreme poverty, unemployment and economy are high in the line of suffering. No health care exists. We may understand depression, but do we totally understand freedom, she asked? The Nicaraguan people need traditions of European culture and modern culture. Funds are essential. The Moravian Christian influence has left its mark throughout the world since the Eleven tables were in play at the Beigrave weekly euchre, Wednes- day evening, Nov. 10. Winners were: high lady, Audrey Edgar; second high, Irene Smyth; most lone hands, Mel Craig (playing as a lady); lucky birthday, 1700s. Mary Taylor will now act as secretary of the group. The meeting concluded with the Lord's Prayer. The Evening Unit of the UCW met on Tuesday evening, Nov. 2 at the home of Ruth Johnston with 22 members answering the roll call with an Armistice verse. Donna Shaw welcomed everyone. Annie Cook conducted the worship service on the theme "Rock and Refuge". "Jesus Lover Of My Soul" and "Rock of Ages" were sung. The scripture was taken from Romans 8, verses 28-39. Barbara Anderson read the meditation concerning Psalm 46. The offering was received and dedicated and Annie Cook closed the worship with prayer. Mabel Wheeler introduced the guest speaker Rev. Paul Boughton who chose the "Baby Boomers" as his subject. These are the babies who were born between 1945 and 1965. He stated that their expectation and lifestyle have changed because of unemployment, taxes and the recession. As a result their attitudes are so different from those of the older generation. An interesting discussion time followed. Donna Shaw thanked Rev. Boughton. The December meeting will be at the home of Laura Johnston with the roll call — bring a pair of mitts for the Children's Aid Society. The election officers for 1994 followed. They are: leader, Muriel Coultes; secretary, Laura Johnston; treasurer, Irene Lamont; social committee, Annie Cook, Norma Moore, Barbara Anderson; community friendship, Doris Michie; pianist, Freda Johnston; group leaders, Mabel Wheeler and Thelma Pletch, Lorna Cook and Hilda Vincent, Barbara Anderson and Freda Johnston.
