Paul Klopp, MPP Huron,
announced Nov. 5 grants totalling
$193,305 to the Ausable-Bayfield

and to the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority (MVCA)

Beaches (CURB) program.

other local residents, this
innovative program is funding

cleanup of our beaches."
At the ABCA, the funding will

It's time to sign up for this
winter's Southwest Agricultural
Conference at Ridgetown College
on Jan. 6-8.
The conference is a totally new
approach to Farmers Week, and has
been re-designed from the ground
up with the help of farmers and
agribusiness from across the
region.
In the past, farmers picked the
days that interested them such as
Corn Day or Soil Management
Day, and then listened to all the
speakers on the agenda. The new
version will be much more flexible,
and also more 'hands on'. It's
geared to letting small groups of
farmers get their questions
answered by experts in over 40
different sessions, says Don Taylor,
director of the college and
spokesperson for the conference.
Topics range from no-till
machinery to the latest on soybean
cyst nematodes, spray additives,
and much, much more, including
everything from fertilizer
placement and cash-crop hay to
lbs. and over, $76 to $92.
Stockers: steers, 400 - 4519 lbs.,
sold $114.50 to $148; 500 - 599
lbs., $102.50 to $136; 600 - 699
lbs., $97 to $114.50; 700 - 799 lbs.,
$79.50 to $115.50; 800 lbs. and
over, $89 to $106.
Heifers, 300 - 399 lbs., sold $108
to $128; 400 - 499 lbs., $107.50 to
$132; 500 - 599 lbs., $97.50 to
$123; 600 - 699 lbs., $84 to $99.75;
700 lbs. and over, $85 to $104.
retirement planning. Agribusiness
has helped to choose speakers that
are the best in their field from
Ontario and beyond.
The aim is to let farmers design
their own days, so they can pick the
topics that will be the most helpful
when they get back home Taylor
says.
The cost until Dec. 17 is $25 per
person per day. Cost for late
registration is $35 per day. Price
includes the information sessions
and workshops, as well as
refreshments and hot lunch, a
registration kit and copy of the
proceedings. All those pre-
registered by Dec. 17 will have a
chance at a draw.
Registration packages and
complete agendas are available
through OMAF county offices and
local agricultural suppliers.
Registration can be by mail, phone
or fax, and payment by cash,
