Legion inducts members

Area students earned a free ticket to the children's show to be held on Nov. 20 in connection
with the Blyth craft and bake sale, which is organized by the Optimist Club of Blyth and
District. The children won the prize by participating in Ontario Public Library Week at the Blyth
Library. The winners are from back left: Casey MacLeod, grade 2 at East Wawanosh P.S.;
Robin Mason, grade 4; Jud Hakkers, grade 7; Dane Cornell, grade 2; and John George,

Hakkers greet at United
Four new members, Jim Osker,
Chris Bolger, Jodie Overboe and
Andrew Flowers were inducted into
the Blyth Branch of the RCL on
Nov.e4s. p ident Donna Dougherty
presented Membership Chairman,
William Vincent, with a Branch
Membership Achievement Pin in
recognition of membership
achievement by Branch 420, from
the District C convention.
Donations made by motions
included: Minor Sports Skate-
athon $200, Army Cadet League
$50, Huron County Christmas
Bureau $200, and CHSS Debating
Club $185.
The Branch is planning to put
together a Christmas hamper for
the Huron County Christmas
Bureau. Anyone interested in
making a donation can leave items
at the Branch or contact any
member of the executive.
Legion members are urged to
attend the Remembrance Day
Service, Nov. 11 at the Blyth
Memorial Hall at 10:45 a.m.
Members of the Branch and the
public are invited to tour the Huron
County Military Display at the
Huron County Museum until Feb.

As you have seen, Morris Street
Is under construction. Robert
Nicholson Construction are
progressing well on this
project. On November 8th
Levis Contracting will start
watermain construction on
Queen Street. This Is to up-
date our water distribution
system, improving service now
and In the future. Seaforth
Public Utilities will soon be
starting up-dating and changing
of hydro lines and poles along
Queen Street. These last two
projects are all in preparation
for Highway No. 4
reconstruction by Ministry of
Transportation next year. We
can look forward to
inconvenience for the next year,
but when completed, the main
street will be In a state that our
Village can be proud of.
So, please bear with us, it will
be worth it.

Village of Blyth
Greeters at Blyth United this past
Sunday were Debbie and Fred
Hakkers. Ushers were Leslie, Ian,
Kristy and Tim Caldwell. Rev.
Jock Tolmay opened the service
with the Call to Worship.
"All Creatures of Our God and
King" was sung, followed by
Prayer of Approach, Confession
and Forgiveness. The Responsive
Psalm was 111, "I will thank the
Lord".
For Children's Time, Rev.
Tolmay asked "Why do we wear
poppies?" The children respondeal.
Rev. Tolmay explained that the red
of the poppy stands for the
bloodshed and the green for new
life and hope. "We can guarantee
peace with war", he said.
The children went to class with
Mary Lou Stewart.
The Choir Anthem was
"Sometimes Alleluia". The hymn
"Ye servants of God" was sung.
The Scripture Reading was taken
from I Thess. 4:13-18, Josh. 24:1-
3a, 14-25. Rev. Tolmay's sermon
was titled "Can a House Serve
God?" We always seem to put the

Over 450,000 people in Ontario
have diabetes. The incidence of
diabetes is increasing at six per cent
annually. The complications of
diabetes make it the third leading
cause of death in Canadians. These
statistics come from the Canadian
Diabetes Association.
Donations are greatly needed, so
canvassers will be calling.

Is our love of God a hobby, he
asked? Some hobbyists will go to
conventions and constantly work at
it. Others will frantically work for
a few days at their hobby, then put
it away for two or three years. Is
this how we act in the church?
Rev. Tolmay said, let's set aside
things that seem so important to us
and receive God's kingdom as our
number one.
The hymn "Take my Life and Let
it Be" was sung.
Susan Howson brought thanks
and a message of sharing from
UCW. Donations to Huron County
Christmas Bureau are now being
accepted. Final hymn was "Who is
on the Lord's Side?"
