THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1993. Roetcisoenders greet at Christian Reformed Greeters at Blyth Christian Reformed Church on Sunday, Oct. 31 were Albert and Margaret Roetcisoender. The worship service for the morning included the sacrament of baptism of little Meghan Ann Siertsema, infant daughter of Mike and Deb. After reading the scripture text from Psalm 51 verses 7 - 9. Rev. The Call to Worship repeated responsively and the Prayer of Approval in unison opened the Sunday morning service at Bluevale United Church with Rev. Banks presiding. Paul Garniss assisted with the lighting of the Christ Candle. Scripture passages were read by Rev. Banks from Joshua 3: 7-17 and Matthew 23: 1-12. Isabel Garniss read the Epistle Lesson - I Thessalonians 2: 9-13. The choir's anthem was "To Serve You" with organists Etoile and Mary Lou Johnston. Jacquie Garniss and Ed Stewart were ushers. With the children gathered at the front, Rev. Banks continued his study of the Books of the New Testament. He also spoke to them of the importance of being careful when they were out on Halloween night. He had with him the mask he wore in the play at Blyth, Many Hands. There is an interesting article and picture concerning the Banks family in the November issue of The Observer. In his message, Rev. Banks spoke of the many masks people wear, to hide behind or those which reveal the true personality. T. Steinman leads worship Thelma Steinman was worship leader for the Sunday morning services at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31. Kathy Procter and Nancy Elliot- Greenwood were pianists on these Sundays and Mervin Lichty was song leader. Elwin Garland gave the message on Oct. 24. He preached on renovations of oneself, which need to be done on the inside. Pastor Tom Warner preached on Oct. 31 on the victory of faith. Several committee meetings are scheduled for the next two weeks. On Saturday evening the Community Praise celebrated an "All Saints' Festival" following the service. Food, fun and fellowship took place in the gymnasium. People had been encouraged to dress as their favourite Biblical character for the service. Several people shared during the service the reason they had chosen the characters they represented. Donations at the November Community Praise services will go to the Survival Through Friendship House. On Tuesday, Oct. 19 the Ladies' Fellowship met for their monthly gathering. Mary Kuepfer and Suzanne Wideman were in charge of the meeting. The ladies shared in fellowship as they quilted. At the November meeting, the ladies will learn to weave lawn chairs. Keep a bottle of drinking water in your fridge instead of running the tap until the water gets cold. Be sure to rinse it regularly. Heersink challenged the congrega- tion with the question; "Is forgiveness real on merely an illusion?" This was the title of the morning message as well as the theme of the sermon. Rev. Heersink said, "When you come to God to confess your sins and guilt you are admitting to your failures, as did David in Psalm 51. "In this psalm David is a broken The hymn, "0 Lord and Master" and the Commissioning and Benediction closed the service. Those taking the Bible Study on the Gospel of John were reminded the next session "The Book of Signs" will be Nov. 17, 8 p.m. at Bluevale. On Friday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Family Advent Fellowship Evening at Bluevale. All people of all ages are welcome to attend. man, struggling with failure, sin and grief. Heersink said, "Forgiveness is not a mere theory, or an illusion. It is a very solid and real promise of our living God." He asked "Are your sins forgiven; has the burden of your guilt been lifted?" The miracle of God's grace is evident in the celebration of the sacraments of baptism and communion. What a cause for joy, he said. God's children are free, free of guilt and free to experience Christian joy!! As a hymn of response to the message the congregation sang hymn No. 489, "Peace Like a River" A special hymn entitled "Our God Reigns" was also chosen by and dedicated to Clarence and Ruth Vanderlei as they celebrated the happy occasion of their 35th anniversary this past Saturday. A special combined Reformation Day Service was held in the evening in North Street United Church, hosted by Goderich Christian Reformed Church.
