Roetcisoenders greet at Christian Reformed
Greeters at Blyth Christian
Reformed Church on Sunday, Oct.
31 were Albert and Margaret
Roetcisoender.
The worship service for the
morning included the sacrament of
baptism of little Meghan Ann
Siertsema, infant daughter of Mike
and Deb.
After reading the scripture text
from Psalm 51 verses 7 - 9. Rev.
The Call to Worship repeated
responsively and the Prayer of
Approval in unison opened the
Sunday morning service at
Bluevale United Church with Rev.
Banks presiding. Paul Garniss
assisted with the lighting of the
Christ Candle.
Scripture passages were read by
Rev. Banks from Joshua 3: 7-17
and Matthew 23: 1-12. Isabel
Garniss read the Epistle Lesson - I
Thessalonians 2: 9-13.
The choir's anthem was "To
Serve You" with organists Etoile
and Mary Lou Johnston. Jacquie
Garniss and Ed Stewart were
ushers.
With the children gathered at the
front, Rev. Banks continued his
study of the Books of the New
Testament. He also spoke to them
of the importance of being careful
when they were out on Halloween
night. He had with him the mask he
wore in the play at Blyth, Many
Hands. There is an interesting
article and picture concerning the
Banks family in the November
issue of The Observer.
In his message, Rev. Banks
spoke of the many masks people
wear, to hide behind or those which
reveal the true personality.
T. Steinman
leads
worship
Thelma Steinman was worship
leader for the Sunday morning
services at Brussels Mennonite
Fellowship on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31.
Kathy Procter and Nancy Elliot-
Greenwood were pianists on these
Sundays and Mervin Lichty was
song leader. Elwin Garland gave
the message on Oct. 24. He
preached on renovations of oneself,
which need to be done on the
inside.
Pastor Tom Warner preached on
Oct. 31 on the victory of faith.
Several committee meetings are
scheduled for the next two weeks.
On Saturday evening the
Community Praise celebrated an
"All Saints' Festival" following the
service. Food, fun and fellowship
took place in the gymnasium.
People had been encouraged to
dress as their favourite Biblical
character for the service. Several
people shared during the service
the reason they had chosen the
characters they represented.
Donations at the November
Community Praise services will go
to the Survival Through Friendship
House.
On Tuesday, Oct. 19 the Ladies'
Fellowship met for their monthly
gathering. Mary Kuepfer and
Suzanne Wideman were in charge
of the meeting. The ladies shared in
fellowship as they quilted.
At the November meeting, the
ladies will learn to weave lawn
chairs.
Keep a bottle of drinking
water in your fridge instead
of running the tap until the
water gets cold. Be sure to
rinse it regularly.
Heersink challenged the congrega-
tion with the question; "Is
forgiveness real on merely an
illusion?" This was the title of the
morning message as well as the
theme of the sermon.
Rev. Heersink said, "When you
come to God to confess your sins
and guilt you are admitting to your
failures, as did David in Psalm 51.
"In this psalm David is a broken
The hymn, "0 Lord and Master"
and the Commissioning and
Benediction closed the service.

man, struggling with failure, sin
and grief. God promised to restore
and heal David, to bring joy and
gladness into his life once again
and to create a right and new spirit
to face life with again, he said.
Christians can therefore be joyful
are forgiven, through Christ's
atoning blood." The God of Grace
removes all failures, mistakes and
brokenness.
Rev. Heersink said, "Forgiveness
is not a mere theory, or an illusion.
It is a very solid and real promise
of our living God."
He asked "Are your sins
forgiven; has the burden of your
guilt been lifted?"
The miracle of God's grace is
evident in the celebration of the
sacraments of baptism and
communion. What a cause for joy,
he said. God's children are free,
free of guilt and free to experience
Christian joy!!
As a hymn of response to the
message the congregation sang
hymn No. 489, "Peace Like a
River" A special hymn entitled
"Our God Reigns" was also chosen
by and dedicated to Clarence and
Ruth Vanderlei as they celebrated
the happy occasion of their 35th
anniversary this past Saturday.
A special combined Reformation
Day Service was held in the
evening in North Street United
Church, hosted by Goderich
