CAR DRAW AT MIDNIGHT
Fans at the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Arena Sunday afternoon were
treated to a nail biter and wen,
home smiling as the hometown.
Bulls pulled out a 3-2 victory
against Hanover.
The defending Western Junior C
Champions jumped out to a 1-0
lead early in the game on a power
play goal by Kevin Sutter, but the
Bulls came right back when Jeremy
Beirnes beat Barons netminder Don
Spittal with a high slapshot from
the blueline.
Hanover regained the lead in the
second period when the Barons
took advantage of some sloppy
clearing by the Bulls and Travis
Fidler hammered home a shot from
the slot. Late in the middle frame
Brian Zabel evened the scored
when he jumped on a loose puck in
the crease after some good
forechecking.
It looked like the two Junior C
rivals were going to finish the game
tied but Nate Bender had other
ideas. With 11 seconds left on the
clock Bender jumped on a rebound
and lifted it over a sprawling
Hanover goalie to give the Bulls a
well deserved victory.
Bulls Coach Scott Pettigrew was
pleased with the victory. "We had a
short bench and a number of
players really dug down deep in the
third. While our powerplay was
ineffective we forechecked well."
The Bulls have another quiet
weekend coming up when they
have a rematch with the Barons
Sunday afternoon in Brussels.
Game time is 2 p.m.

executive will be playing the

Youth charged
after accident
A 17-year-old has been charged
with careless driving and liquor
under age following an accident in
Moths on Sunday morning at 3:10.
A spokesperson from the Wing-
ham OPP said the driver of the car
was eastbound on Conc. 2/3 when
he drove through a yield sign at the
T-intersection of Sideroad 5/6,
entered the east ditch and struck a
tree.

an 8 p.m. game against current and
previous Bulls executive.
All gate receipts will be donated
to the recreation board to assist in
paying for the new ice resurfacing
machine and dishwasher.
President Joe Kerr, says, the
executive chose this project as they
know how to put on a hockey
game. "It is a very good fit for them
to make a contribution to this very
worthwhile project," he said.
On the roster for the Tryhards,
AM920's Matt Miller, CKNX
sports director Gord Dougan and
FM102's Doug Avery.. After the
game the Bulls will be holding
their annual 'meet the player' dance,
with proceeds going towards team
expenses. The dance will feature
some country and western music
with the popular line dancing.
There will be instruction available
for those first time line dancers. "It
should be fun," said Mr. Kerr.
At midnight the draw will be
held for the 1972 Buick Skylark
Suncoupe. Tickets will be available
at the game. "This should be an
evening of fun, please introduce
yourselves to the players and get to
know them," Mr. Kerr said.

Hockey season has arrived again
in Blyth with most teams seeing
game action after three weeks of
preparations by the coaches of each
team. Again this year their jobs
were helped by the hockey school
run by Larry Lane and Doug Neill
for Blyth minor hockey players.
After a five year absence, Midget
hockey has returned to Blyth. Mike
Henry and Mike Radford, who both
played on the last Midget team in
1987-1988 that lost in the All-
Ontario Finals to Muncey, have
returned to coach this squad. The
team opened their exhibition season
in Blyth on Oct. 14 against
Seaforth.
Seaforth, playing its sixth game
of the season, was clearly the better
team as they soundly defeated the
locals 4-1. After Seaforth built a 3-
0 lead Blyth finally got on the
scoreboard midway through the
third. Rookie Casey Boven, who
was playing his first OMHA game
ever, performed the honours as he
tucked in the puck from close range
after being set up by Jason Heipel
and Henry Bos. Seaforth tallied a
late marker and skated home with a
4-I victory.
Game number two of the
exhibition tour was played in Blyth
on Oct. 29 with Ripley the visitors.
The improvement in Blyth's play
was very evident as they
completely outplayed everyone but
the Ripley netminder in gaining a
1-1 tie. Blyth played well at both
ends of the ice as they outshot
Ripley by more than 20 shots.
Ripley took a 1-0 lead four
minutes into the game and Blyth
tried to even the score the rest of
the game.
Blyth's perseverance finally paid
off with 12 and a half minutes
remaining in the game. While
enjoying a power play Ryan
Chamney fed winger Boven, who
backhanded a shot that deflected
off a Ripley defender and fooled
the opposition crease keeper.
The goaltending was outstanding
at both ends but the Ripley goalie
deserved the game star selection
with his stellar puck stopping.
The action continues this week as
the league schedule gets underway.
Blyth visits Brussels tonight, Nov.
3 at 9 o'clock and then hosts Exeter
H on Nov. 5 at 9 o'clock.
Game time for Midget games this
season will be Friday nights at 9
o'clock in Blyth. Come out and
enjoy the return of Midget hockey
to Blyth this season.
