SALES & SERVICE LTD
Anniversary Sunday was held at
Blyth United Church, Sunday, Oct.
31. Greeters at the door were Lois
van Vliet and Linda Wilson. Ushers
were David Marshall, Gary
Caldwell and Bill and Marion
Young. Rev. Reid Vipond of
London was guest speaker.
The service opened with call to
worship, followed by the hymn "Ye
Servant of God". The responsive
Psalm was 63.
For the children's time, Rev.
Vipond had the toothpicks. He
asked the children to each break
one. He then added that if they
were in a bunch, it wouldn't be as
easy to break them. He compared
this with the United Church. One
you could break but breaking the
4,044 United Churches in Canada,
together would be difficult.
"Let us all be together. United we
stand, divided we fall," he said.
Frances Bearss was in charge of the
Junior Congregation.
The congregation sang, "The
Church's One Foundation",
followed by the choir anthem,
"More Love to Thee 0 Christ".
Scripture reading was Is. 40: 1-8,
28-31; followed by hymn "Jesus,
Where'er Thy People Meet".
Rev. Vipond's sermon was
entitled "The Human Touch''. God
takes the hands of everyone to
guide them with the human touch,
he said. There are over 1,500
references in the bible pertaining to
hands. They are the props in life as
they are used in so many ways".
He asked everyone at the end of
the service to join hands.
The quartet, Garth Walden,
Shane Snell, Ron Snell and John
McDowell sang "From All Ages".
The closing hymn was "Guide Me,
0 Thou Great Jehovah."
The bronze mum was placed in
loving memory of Jack and Cora
Wilson, by their families.
Induction service for Rev. Jock
Tolmay is Sunday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m.
Everyone welcome.
