Council approves $3,711 filing system Seniors enjoy sing-song THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1993. PAGE 3. By Bonnie Gropp The long-awaited filing system is finally on its way to Blyth Munici- pal Office. Council voted at its Oct. 28 meet- ing to approve the purchase of a filing system valued at $3,711. A filing system had been included in the 1992 and 1993 budgets, but was not approved due to financial con- cerns. Clerk-Treasurer Helen Grubb told councillors that a grant, which had been received from the Min- istry of Housing to improve the office's filing system would reduce the village share to $2,717. The grant money had been in the bank since Dec. 15, 1992, she said. She presented council with two prices, one for a locked cabinet, and one for an open cabinet. The cost difference was just under $860. Ms Grubb told council that some of the money would be coming out of the hydro and water bank accounts as the system would be used for their files as well. The system will make the office B. Patterson shoots 180 at Legion darts On Oct. 15 there were 11 teams at Blyth Legion darts. Winners were: first, Colleen Martin and Dave Adams; second, Mae Ritchie and Brian Bell; high lady, Edythe Glousher with 103; and high man, Kevin Ritchie with 140. Oct. 22 winners were: first, Shirley Wood and Andy Lubbers; second, Dini Nethery and Harry Thompson; high lady, Donna Govier with 145; and high man, John Blok with 133. Fourteen teams participated. Oct. 29 there were 12 teams with the winners being: first, Mae Ritchie and Hugh Cook; second, Deb Stryker and John Blok and high lady, Edythe Glousher with 109. Bill Patterson shot 180 and will receive a 180 pin. Next high score was Andy Lubbers with 140. PITCH-IN CANADA! more efficient council was told as information on each property could be stored in a separate file and would be easier to access. The reasons for a locked system over an open one, Ms Grubb says, is confidentiality. Asked by Coun- cillor Eugene Coburn, which sys- tem she preferred for the office, she said the locked one as she believed the residents would feel secure knowing that their files are under lock and key. The present filing cabinets will go to the arena and the village shop. Council voted unanimously to purchase the locked filing system. Ms Grubb also asked council about a fax machine for the office, another item which has been in the budget for two years. Ms Grubb specified that she was looking for a machine that used bond paper as it doesn't have to be photocopied if the information needs to be filed. Reeve Dave Lee suggested, how- ever, the possibility of receiving faxes through the office computer. "That way you can buy the cheap- est fax machine just for transmis- sion," he said. Council also passed a motion to advertise for tenders to complete the office work areas and redesign the council table. The Blyth Swinging Seniors met in the Memorial Hall at 12 noon on Oct. 27 for a pot luck dinner. Following the dinner, President John Hesselwood called the meeting to order and opened by singing 0 Canada. A sing-song followed with Harve McDowell and Millar Richmond leading with Phyllis Boak at the piano. Happy Birthday was sung to Mary Walden for her October birthday. John then called on Joe Chatterton of Blyth, who delighted the audience with several harmonica numbers. Mary Walden thanked him. Jean Nethery introduced the speaker Brian Elmslie of Port Elgin, an investment broker. He explained some hints on investing money. Jean thanked him and presented a gift. John continued with the business meeting and the usual reports were given. John then gave a humorous poem called "Paddy Haggerty's Old Leather Britches". He reminded members about the turkey dinner which will be catered to by the Legion ladies on Nov. 24 at 12 noon. The price is $9 which includes dinner and admission to the meeting. Those interested should notify Vera Hesselwood or Ferne McDowell by Nov. 19 for tickets. All Seniors welcome. The Seniors will be entertaining at Huronlea in Brussels on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. for their December birthday party. Cookies and squares will be served to the residents.
