Over 100 renowned Canadian artists have each created an exclusive miniature piece of art, primarily in a 3" x 3" format. Each person attending the gala evening sponsored by the Blyth Centre for the Arts on Nov. 6 will get to choose their own favourite as their name is drawn from the hat. Mr. Reed is perhaps most recognized from his 18-year tenure as host of the popular CBC series, W5. A longtime resident of the Lucknow and Dungannon areas, he is currently a freelance communications consultant and a respected member of the board of directors of the Blyth Centre for the Arts. "We couldn't have asked for a CKNX writer gets gold CKNX broadcaster, Kevin Stewart, was presented with the gold award by the Canadian Farm Writers' Federation (C.F.W.F.) for his story on CKNX AM 920, "Farmers Divided over Stable Funding." The news feature covered the topic of funding farm organizations. The gold award, also known as the "Tom Leach Award", is presented to the radio reporter for the best Canadian produced single news story of less than five minutes in length on an agricultural topic intended primarily to inform commercial-scale farmers. This award is sponsored by the Alberta Wheat Pool. Mr. Stewart produced the national award-winning story while he was the assistant farm director for CKNX Radio AM 920 which is owned and operated by Blackburn Radio Inc. Mr. Stewart, who now works for the Baton Broadcasting System, was also awarded the silver award for television news. This is not the first time that Mr. Stewart has earned awards from the CFWF. In 1991, he won the silver award for CKNX Radio. The CFWF award night was held in Guelph on Saturday, Oct. 16. better host for this event," says Development Co-ordinator Lynda Lentz. "Jim's gentle wit and comfortable patter will guarantee an entertaining and suspense-filled evening for everyone." Ticket holders for the event will have ample opportunity to admire the collected artworks, now on display in the Bainton Gallery attached to the Blyth Memorial Hall. Starting with over 100 to choose from in every medium, the most difficult decision will be narrowing it down to your particular favourites, Ms Lentz says. Then, every few minutes during the evening a name will be drawn, entitling that individual to first choice of the remaining pieces on display. Every holder of a $93 ticket will go home with a unique piece of Canadian art, framed or mounted and ready for display. Easing the suspense between the draws is a continuous stream of tempting hors d'oeuvres and mouth-watering gourmet delights. Smoked salmon, shrimp, cheese, pates, pork and beef tenderloins, figs with Camembert filling, dates with ginger filling... The menu seems endless, with house specialties donated by several of the finest restaurants in the county.
