Caldwells celebrate 50 years of marriage
Gladys and Ralph Caldwell com-
memorated 50 years of marriage
this past weekend. Some 50 guests
honoured the golden couple at a
family dinner on Saturday, Oct. 16
at Blyth United Church while
friends and neighbours joined them
at an Open House at the church on
Sunday.
The former Gladys Florence
Webster of Conc. 13 Hullett, wed
her groom at the home of her aunt
Mrs. Albert Vodden, Clinton on
Oct. 9, 1943. The daughter of
Joseph and Maud Webster and the
son of John and Thirza Caldwell of
Conc. 2, East Wawanosh were unit-
ed in marriage by Rev. Andrew
Lane.
They were attended by the bride's
sister Bertha, and Gordon Caldwell,
the groom's cousin.
Following a honeymoon trip to
Niagara Falls, the newlyweds
returned to their farm at Conc. 2
East Wawanosh where they farmed
until retiring about two years ago.
The Caldwells have five chil-
dren: Anne and her husband David
Cottel now of Crediton, Leslie and
Evelyn, RR3, Blyth, Wayne and
Deb, RR6, Goderich, Stephen and
Joan, RR3, Blyth and Karen and
West Wawanosh council held a
public meeting prior to its regular
meeting of Oct. 5 to discuss a pro-
posed zoning bylaw for Part Lot
15, Conc. 8.
A motion was passed that the
bylaw be amended to change the
west part of the lot from natural
environment to natural environ-
ment special.
Peter Lantinga approached coun-
cil seeking advice and assistance
with regards to a neighbouring
swine operation which is causing
annoyance due to an offensive
odour. Council informed Mr.
Lantinga that as the operation in
not illegal in any aspect there was
nothing could be done.
Proceeds from the sale of sou-
venirs at the Lucknow Fall Fair are
to be donated to the Agricultural
Society.
A motion was made to donate 20
shirts to the Dungannon Agricultur-
al Society as prizes for the Hal-
lowe'en dance.
The road accounts totalling
$75,375.33 and the general
accounts in the amount of
$25,739.62 were approved for pay-
ment.
J.A. McBride of Maitland Engi-
neering Service was appointed to
provide services for the repair and
altering of the Murray Drainage
Ron Bruinsma, RR4, Goderich.
They also have 14 grandchildren.
At the family dinner, a lovely
meal was served by the UCW. This
was followed by a short program
with the Caldwell's eldest son,
Leslie filling the duties of MC.
A skit in the form of a mock
wedding was performed by the
grandchildren. Several selections
were sung by the couple's daughter
Karen.
Included in the evening were
Works.
Tuition and test book costs for
Jane Cere to attend the Municipal
Administration Course will be paid.
Council recommended that the
Joint Recreation Committee pro-
ceed with repairs to the Lucknow
swimming pool by Charles Bruins-
ma.
A bylaw passed imposing special
many poems and memories read by
relatives and friends, which added
to the evening's enjoyment.
Special guests at the dinner were
the couple's bridal attendants from
50 years ago.
The Caldwells received congratu-
latory certificates from Premier
Bob Rae, Prime Minister Kim
Campbell, Governor-General Ray
Hnatsyn, MP Murray Cardiff and
MPP Paul Klopp.

the transfer, maintenance, manage-
ment and control of the Bethel
Cemetery.
An agreement was signed with
Harold Glenn, Ronald MacCrostie
and Ross and Lois Durnin for an
