The levy is with regards to expenses incurred in negotiating the Social Contract. *** Board approval was given to send correspondence to the Minis- ter of Education and Training, the members of the Social Policy Com- mittee and to other Cabinet Minis- ters and local MPPS urging them to support the introduction of legisla- tion to affect Education Finance Reform based on the Minority Report of the Fair Tax Commis- sion. *55 A motion passed that the existing playground equipment removed during the construction of the addi- tion at St. James School, Seaforth not be reinstalled. The board wants the equipment disposed of with any proceeds being returned to the school. The installation of new equip- ment will be the responsibility of the local school community if they desire. *5* Board approval was given to replace the boiler at St. Mary's School in Goderich at an estimated cost of $13,750 as recommended by Smylie & Crow Associates Inc., Consulting Engineers. The superintendent of business and finance is looking into the pos- sibility of an advance renovations grant from the Ministry of Educa- tion and Training. ass A motion was approved for the leasing of the annex at the former St. Michael Secondary School on an "as is" basis. It was agreed that the lease should allow for the recovery of costs associated with heating, light- ing and providing general custodial care. Also, the board feels the lease should be on a short term basis, pending disposition of the building. *** A tender for the exterior play area of the SERC site was awarded to McLean-Peister for landscaping at $23,982.30 and to Royal Fence Ltd in the amount of $6,751.70 for chain link fencing. *54. Caretaker Janice Henry reported that the blinds had been installed in the lower hall thanks to the gen- erosity of the Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary. In reviewing the rental agree- ment, the board added an item. The caretaker has to be given at least 24 hours notice regarding setup arrangements. A heating duct inspection was conducted by Hartley Richie of Hartech Services to try and solve the problem of poor air circulation in the heating months. Mr. Richie advised the board that the installation of cold air returns in the face of the stage would draw air down from the ceiling and help with the heating problem. No decisions were made at this meeting. Two rental issues were also resolved. It was moved by Mr. Salverda that once a community group had ceased to use the hall on a regular basis, the special price set before Sept. 27, 1993 would be discontin- ued. The group would be required to renegotiate a price once regular use resumed. The board decided to create a list of services outside groups would have to provide for themselves when using the hall facilities. Blyth United begins season September brings with it new beginnings - a new school year, a new season, new activities, and at Blyth United Church - a new minister. On Sunday, Nov. 7, Huron-Perth Presbytery will hold a covenanting service in Blyth United Church to officially induct Rev. Tolmay into his position of Minister of Blyth United Church. The service is at 8 p.m. The Board of Stewards has announced it will once again be hosting an Anniversary Dinner on Oct. 29. This annual dinner has proven itself to be very popular with the whole community. The ever growing "Harvest Bonanza" will once again be held Nov. 4, 5, and 6.
