He described their adventures on the seven day tour, giving what records they were able to see and where they were located. In September, the Society had a Blacksheep and Missing Persons night. Phyllis Thompson of Clinton gave a mesmerizing, theatrical version of one of her husband's early Scottish ancestors. Debbie Virkutis of Clinton spoke of an ancestor accused of treason in the War of 1812-14. Reg Thompson of Clinton spoke on his difficulty tracing one ancestor in eastern Ontario. Myrtle Johnstone of Goderich spoke on finding a missing link in her research. During the past two years, students from the Huron County Board of Education have partici- pated in four "Independently Speaking" symposiums. The most recent, held in Kent County, offered an opportunity for students to exchange views with their intellectual peers as they examined major ethical issues. The cross- curricular nature of "Independently Speaking" allows students to investigate areas of individual interest and to examine issues beyond the requirements of most secondary school courses. This symposium is being held at Centralia College of Agricultural Technology. It is organized under the auspices of the Western Ontario Region Committee for Gifted — a committee of educators from Boards of Education and Universities in Southwestern Ontario.
