Everyone returned to Alyssa's home where her parents David and Dianne Diehl served a delicious dinner. Rev. Cam McMillan, Brussels, officiated at the service. Brussels village council heard Monday night that not only will the Brussels Fire Department be on patrol Halloween night, but two Bell Canada workers will be out By Shannon Groves The Brussels Buccaneers soccer team was to have played on Monday with Howick. The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge No. 315 Brussels took place on Tuesday, Sept. 28 with Noble Grand Gertie Kellington presiding. There was a good attendance. Plans were made for the installation of officers at the Oct. 12 meeting. Visitors from Exeter and Monkton Lodges are expected. Sunday, Sept. 26 saw the blessing and dedication of the new St. Ambose Catholic Church. His Excellency John Sherlock, Bishop of the London Diocese was in attendance at the official opening of the recently built centre of worship for area Catholics. The pastor of the parish, Father Joe Nevett, presided with Very Reverend John Sherlock in the consecration of the church. The celebration opened with the bishop and Father Joe blessing the holy water. Together they blessed the congregation and the new structure. Following the official dedication they concelebrated Mass with the priests from the Huron-Perth Deanery who were in attendance. In his homily Bishop Sherlock reminded the parishioners that the easiest job had been completed, that is the building of the church. He said now is the time to go out to the community and build the making sure youngsters are protect- ed from older revelers. Brian Deit- ner appeared before council to get support for the Bell Canada plan. He said he and Tim Prior would be out in Bell Canada vans from 5:30 to 9 p.m. looking out for the safety of village youngsters. Mr. Wayne Waetcher, chairman of Wingham Sacred Heart Parish offered congratulations on behalf of his congregation. Mrs. Pat Nolan, chairman of Brussels St. Ambrose Parish made a presentation of a photo album and the recently published church photo directory to the Bishop. Last Friday the grade six-eight classes went to the IPM. The common consensus was that it was fun. The grade eights are planning a Backwards Day for next Friday. The day will begin with a fashion show in which the models will be wearing their clothes backwards. A game is planned for later in the day. Mrs. Uhler's class has been studying weather recently. They have learned about numerous weather instruments. Mrs. Clark and her class have been studying Canada. They have done a mural of Canadian animals, they have also drawn pictures of Canadian sports. The kindergarten class visited the orchard on Sept. 30. They walked to the orchard and were bused back. Each child came home with a bag of apples. WOMEN'S HOCKEY Need some exercise this winter? On Sept. 9 Mark and Evelyn Howard flew to Vancouver where they rented a car and travelled through the mountains. They visited the icefields at Jasper National Park, Banff, Hot Springs, Lake Louise, Calgary, Hell's Gate Canyon, the Rocky Mountain Ski Resort where Mark went up on the lift. A nervous Ev stayed at the lodge which was one of the highlights of their trip. They saw fresh snow and lots of snow in the mountains. The weather was beautiful all the time. They went for a cruise on a houseboat, and also caught some speckled trout. A visit to Victoria on Vancouver Island was enjoyed, however Mark wasn't too impressed with Penticton and they found Vancouver very friendly. They covered 19,800 miles (33,000 km.) on the highway, stopping only to eat and sleep. Mark is going on a hunting trip to Newfoundland on Oct. 16 to Nov. 6. Unfortunately Ev has to work but they plan to spend Christmas in Jacksonville, Fla. By the way Ev did all the driving. L. McCutcheon new NG St. Ambrose dedicated Brussels P.S.
