Brussels In the absence of President Mary Lowe, the Vice President Sarah Stephenson opened the meeting at Maple Villa on Wednesday, Sept. 22 with the Friendship Club Song. Sarah Stephenson read an article entitled "The Old Fashioned The Majestic Women's Institute got back into the swing of things with their first meeting on Sept. 8. After the usual opening, the business got under way. The county rally is to be held on Oct. 4 at OMAF in Clinton. The delegates are Leona Armstrong and Ruth Bauer. Delegate for the Area Convention on Oct. 27 and 28 in Brussels is Yvonne Knight with Doris McCall as alternate. Leona Armstrong and Peggy Keffer will put up the display at the Fall Fair. A motion was also made to make a donation to the fair. The last week of September, a quilt will be put up at Doris McCall's. It was decided against having a bazaar again this year as everyone is busy with the Area Convention in Brussels. Loonies are to be sent for the Headquarter fund for each member by Area Convention. It was decided to donate $300 to Huronlea to be put towards a speaker system. There was also a motion to purchase a speaker system for the branch. Mileage rates are to be kept the same. Card parties are to be held again this year. The first one is on Tuesday, October 5 at 8 p.m. in the Brussels library. Cellar", followed by the singing of "0 Canada" with Alf Sutton at the piano. Adah Smith read a true to life message, ''Getting Inspired." The election of officers was to follow but no one appeared very willing to accept these positions so it was decided to suspend it until Committee for October is Leona Armstrong, Alice Brothers and Kathy Bridge. A reminder was given of the change of time to 11 a.m. on Oct. 13 for the next meeting. A finger lunch is to be brought to the Nature Centre. The meeting was closed with ''O" Canada. Cake with peaches and cream was served by the lunch committee. Scouting news The arrival of fall once again signals the beginning of a new year of scouting in Brussels. Leaders for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have been busy organizing a whole year's worth of exciting activities. Scouts, led by Ross Hemingway and Laura Groves meet Mondays from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the Brussels Mennonite Church. Cubs is led by George Kroll and Alan Walker, who welcome Rob Willie to the pack as a new leader. Cubs meet Mondays from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Brussels Public School. Beavers is under the guidance of Lynda Shaw and newcomer Patti Smith. Beavers meets Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Brussels Library. All three groups accept late registrations. People Dr. Don Hemingway and his wife, Bernice, have returned to Boissevain, Man. after visiting 10 days with their parents and relatives in Bayfield and Brussels. On Tuesday, July 14, Doreen Dale and Mildred Jacklin spent an enjoyable day travelling with Cherrey Bus Lines to Paris. A full course family style dinner was served at the Exhibition Hall at the Paris Fairgrounds, followed by the entertainment by the Paul Brothers of Kirkton. The highlight of the day was the musical performance of the talented and well known Walters Family of RR 2 Bright, who have travelled throughout the United States and Canada. The youngest member, Darren, can skillfully play 10 different instruments. , A supper stop was at the Fairview Mall in Kitchener on the way home. A turkey dinner was enjoyed at the home of Lawrence and Mildred Jacklin on Sunday, Sept. 19. Attending were Harold and Ada Thornton of Kitchener, their youngest son David, Jennifer and Willy of Penticton, B.C., home on a two week vacation; Bruce, Brenda and Don Williams and Dean and Bonnie Williams all of Atwood. The event was a fundraiser for the store as well as a way to show off the handiwork of the volunteers. Holding the quilt are, from left: Brenda Gilkes and Wendy Martin. Club hears inspiring message the next meeting when perhaps more would be in attendance. The next meeting will not occur until Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. due to the October meeting coinciding with the Fall Zone 8 Rally on Oct. 20 in Londesboro. Any one wishing to attend is to meet at Maple Villa at 11 a.m. where transportation will be provided. The price of the rally is $3. Alf Sutton made a motion, which was seconded by Martha Logan that the October meeting be cancelled due to the above commitment. The Friendship Club will provide entertainment and lunch at Huronlea on Jan. 11. Euchre followed with these winners: high lady, Ruby Steiss;.- high man, Kate Wilson; low lady, Ethel Brewer and low man, Mary Clark.
