Beginning Sept. 19, CKNX-TV
will return comprehensive
agricultural coverage to the Farm
Community of Southwestern
Ontario.
In March, CKNX-TV Wingham,
CFPL-TV London, CHWI-TV
Windsor, became part of the Baton
Broadcasting system. The
commitment of Baton resources not
only returns Family Farmer to
CKNX viewers, but it also
introduces the program to viewers
of CFPL-TV London and CHWI-
TV Windsor.
The program is an established
leader in the agricultural
community. ''The show contains
weekly news and market
information, also features which
examine how change impacts our'
farm families," says Kevin Stewart,
Host of the program. "We're
pleased to add crop and weather
data this season. This is
information I think producers will
find very useful."
Ross Daily's program This
Business of Farming will
immediately follow Family Farmer
providing one full hour of
agricultural programming each
Sunday afternoon.
"Farmers should be aware
program times may vary during the
first few weeks by the scheduling
of Blue Jays Baseball. Producers
should watch their local listings for
dates and times," says Mr. Stewart.

of the zebra mussel.
This small flea could do as much
damage as the mussel, says OFAH.
The population explodes and
devours the plankton which is the
food source for small fish.
The fish are not able to eat the
flea because of the spines on the
tail. Digestion is very difficult so
the flea is spit out.
OFAH says all the Great Lakes
have been affected. On July 22,
evidence showed the ninth lake in a
chain from Lake Muskoka had
been invaded.
The discovery of the flea in Can-
ning Lake and Kashagawigamog
Lake indicates an isolated introduc-
tion.
Dr. Terry Quinney, OFAH
provincial co-ordinator of fish and
wildlife services says, this species

is a real problem because it is able
to survive in fairly cold waters.
The federation stresses that pre-
cautions should be taken to ensure
minimal transfer of the flea.
As with the zebra mussel infesta-
tion, boats and trailers should be
thoroughly washed, all water
should be drained and equipment
dried before boating in a new body
of water.
Live bait should not be trans-
ferred to other lakes because it can
carry the flea, says Beth MacKay, a
OFAH biologist.
The federation runs an Invading
Species Hotline at 1-800-563-7711.
