The Citizen, 1993-09-22, Page 3A tribute
Thanks to the generosity of the Frank Bainton family, the Blyth Lions have recently placed
this impressive water fountain as a tribute to the late Mr. Bainton, a well-known local
businessperson, who passed away Dec. 22, 1992. Mr. Bainton was a charter member of the
Blyth Lions, a past president and a life member of Lions International. Mrs. Bainton said the
family was very pleased with the memorial that the club had decided upon. From left: Lions
President John Stewart, Mr. Bainton's grandson Franklin Snell, Past President Ken Stewart,

THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1993. PAGE 3.
Pastor talks of change
The greeters on Sunday, Sept. 19
at the Christian Reformed Church
in Blyth were Jack and Peter
Nonkes.
The congregation opened with
the hymn "How Lovely is Your
Dwelling". After prayer for
confession of sins and then the
assurance of pardon, Rob Datema
read the scriptures from Matthew
5:43-48 for his sermon titled,
"God's Purpose: Perfecting the
Saints".
The first question Mr. Datema
asked was, "How good must a
saved person be — 50 per cent, 80
per cent?" Jesus was asked this
question also and He gave His
answer in Matthew 5:48 — "Be
perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly
Father is perfect." Mr. Datema
explained perfect in three ways —
Tam (Hebrew) means to be entirely
without defect or blemish, Shalem
(Hebrew) means wholeness or
soundness, Telieos (Greek) means
well-equipped or blameless.
Just so, Mr. Datema said, God
means for man to be without
blemish, to be whole and
blameless.

LEGION WEEK
David E. Lee, Reeve
Village of Blyth.
"How does God do this?" Mr.
Datema asked, then went on to
show how God works in the life of
a Christian. First, sin involves the
sinner and others, as well as
offends God's justice. Therefore
God sent His Son Jesus Christ to
die on the cross for sin. His perfect
death, Mr. Datema says, cancels the
debt of sin of the believer.
Secondly, God works in lives
daily for perfection. As Paul says
in the Bible, we haven't obtained
this but press toward this goal and
even though the slate has been
wiped clean our natural
inclinations, our wrong ideas and
our wrong actions, are still sinful so
we need to be perfected by God so
as to be like Jesus.
Thirdly, Mr. Datema stated, God
will not give up His purposes of
perfecting you. Even when you sin

Jehovah" was sung.
Scripture reading from Exodus
16:2-15; Matthew 20:1-16, the
story previously shared with the
young people, was the basis of the
minister's sermon topic "What is
it?" Change is always threatening,
he said. Growth means change.
Growth is always accompanied
with growing pains but with the
pain of growth, no matter how long
or how painful, comes the capacity
of new things. We are given the
assurance irregardless of our
abilities.
Hymn "I Hunger and I Thirst"

In summary Mr. Datema said that
death is a door to perfect life in
eternity, into the presence of Jesus
Christ where we will be perfect like
Jesus in love and humility. God
never begins something He doesn't
finish and no one who ever believes
in Jesus Christ will ever be lost!
