UCW hears key points
on multiculturalism
Wanting to meet more of the
Walton people and to welcome the
newcomers in town, and wanting to
help the arthritis campaign, Patty
Banks volunteered to canvass for
arthritis. She says it was a most
enjoyable experience as she met a
lot of nice, friendly people, got
some new recipes and learned a
few more birthdays. On behalf of
the Walton community she'd like to
welcome the following people:
Mary and Wallace Lundrigian
from Stratford. Mary has become a
new Avon distributor.
Don Kuntz and Sandy Berlet and
children Michelle, Jessica and
Aaron.
John and Don Clarke who have
moved here from Mitchell.
Diane Deitz and children
Michael and Heather from the
Dublin area.
Joe and Susan Gerber from the
Kitchener area. We hope you
enjoy life in Walton.
Birthday celebrants are: James
and Nick Durell and Jessica Berlet-
Kuntz on Sept. 17, Clarence Flood
on Sept. 20, Sandy Berlet Sept. 21,
and Barb Durell on Sept. 24,
Neil and Marie McGavin
travelled to Allentown, Penn.
where they attended the wedding of
Dr. Glenn and Marilyn Oliver's
daughter. The doctor and family
used to live in the Walton area.
The Walton WI meeting is on
Sept. 15 at 8:00 in the Hall. The
topic is "Heart Health" and a
speaker from the Health Unit will
talk about all the ways to keep the
heart healthy.
Neil McGavin was the MC at the
Brussels Fair Dance where Sharon
Godkin of Walton was chosen for
Queen. Sharon said she was very
happy and proud to have won.
You will see Sharon on
Wednesday Sept. 15 ,as she rides in
the Brussels Fair Parade. Sharon,
Brussels Village councillors
passed a by-law. Sept. 7, to pur-
chase all CN Rail lines within the
village, now it just has to determine
how much land that really involves.
Lori Pipe, acting clerk-treasurer,
told council that the survey of the
railway lands had been completed
(at a cost of $1,813.93) but the sur-
veyors could find no sign that land
affected by the closing of two
streets in the area under a 1963
representing Brussels, will be
attending the Miss Midwestern
Queen competition in Lucknow on
Sept. 18.
Congratulations Sharon, and
good luck.
Last Monday Malcolm Gulutzen
was seriously injured in a fanning
accident and taken to London
Hospital. The good news is
Malcolm will be coming home the
first of this week.
Duff's to host
guest speaker
On Sept. 19, Rev. Charles Swan
will be guest speaker at Duff's
anniversary service at 11:00.
A video will be shown for the
children.

bylaw (Cypress and Walnut) had
ever been properly transferred.
According to the 1963 bylaw
closing the streets, the former street
allowances were supposed to have
been transferred to CN and Gordon
Workman (presently the Brussels
reeve) but there is so far no record
that the transfer was recorded.
Once the matter is settled, the
process to close the sale will begin.
Lys and BJ DeJong held a family
get-together when Lys's two
daughters, one of his sons and their
families and his brother Bob came
up from Cambridge.
Thanks to the kindness of Ken
Williamson they all had fun on a
hayride and later that evening
enjoyed a campfire, BJ said they
had lots of food and fun and
enjoyed playing Trivial Pursuit till
the wee hours of the morning.
Walton UCW met Wednesday
Sept. 8 with Gloria Love and
Doreen Hackwell opening the
devotional portion of the meeting
with the theme: "Let's face
ourselves". Edith Wey played the
chosen hymns "Oh Master Let me
Walk with Thee" and "Behold us a
Little Space".
Heidi McClure and Gloria
Wilbee on the Leadership and
Development committee touched
on some key points from the
Observer about Multiculturalism in
the Church.
Marie McGavin led the business
part of the meeting where many
topics were discussed, and then
adjourned the meeting by reading
this poem —
A wise old owl lived in an oak,
The more he saw, the less he
spoke.
The less he spoke, the more he
heard,
0, make me like that wise old
Owl.
