THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15,1993. Knox presents Bibles to children It was Sept 11, 1943 when Don- ald and Lois Haines exchanged vows at Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph. They were attended by Myrtle Crosbie of Guelph and Rol- lano Mailhot of Montreal. Rev. J. C. Greier conducted the ceremony. Following the wedding Mr. Haines served for four years with the Royal Canadian Air Force, then took up farming on County Road 25 in Colborne Tsp, where they lived for 22 years before moving to Auburn. Mr. Haines then worked for the province as an assessor. He retired in 1985. They have two children, Mrs. Margaret (Ron) Livermore of Ford- WMS hears 23rd Psalm The monthly meeting of the Auburn Presbyterian WMS was held at the home of Lillian Letherland. President Martha Daer opened the meeting and welcomed all present. The Devotional period was taken by Frances Clark. The Scripture portion was the reading in unison of the 23rd Psalm. The Meditation was on the Psalm; this was followed by prayer. Martha Daer had the Study. She read about "Sour Grapes in God's Vineyard" and "God's Love for Us" was also read. Several other readings followed. The meeting closed with all repeating the Lord's Prayer and Mizpath benediction. The Thanksgiving meeting will be at Martha Daer's home. WI meets Erma Carokright, convenor of education and cultural activities will have for a speaker Lynda Lentz of Blyth Theatre at the Women's Institute to be held at the Auburn Community Hall on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. The roll call will be "Name Your Favourite Pastime". Rev. Paul Ross conducted the service at Knox United Church on Sept. 12. Nancy Park was organist. There was early hymn sing. Rev. Ross gave the Words of Welcome and the Invitation to Worship was repeated in unison. He also gave the Prayers of Approach and Confession. Hymn "He's Got The Whole World" was sung. The Sunday School teachers and children were called to the front and Doug McClinchey thanked them for their work in the past year, then presented some of the children with Bibles. Recovenanting with the Church School and promises to Auburn Missionary hosts guest speaker Stanley Tam, a businessman from Lima, Ohio, was guest speaker at Auburn Missionary Church this past weekend. On Sunday, Sept. 12 his message was from Matt. 6:19-21. How can I lay up treasures in heaven? he asked. Canadian dollars are no good in heaven. We are merely trustees of what we have in this world. When we look at our circumstances we lose hope but God shall supply all our needs, not our wants, he said. All the things we have in this world will be rust and dust in 100 years, but if we accept Christ as our personal saviour we will have eternal life, said Mr. Tam. The music for this weekend was given by Simon and Cecelia Avidas from Mexico. You can lose a lot mote than your licence drinking and driving. one another were read, followed by the Lord's Prayer repeated in unison. "Jesus Loves The Little Children" was sung. "From the Slave Pens of the Delta" was sung, after which Rev. Ross delivered his sermon "Perfecting the Church". The offering was received by Ken Ramsey and Greg Park and for the Sunday School brought forward by Joel Arthur and Pauline Blok and dedicated. Rev. Ross gave the Pastoral Prayer and the Closing hymn was "In Christ There Is No East or West". Rev. Ross pronounced the Benediction and Amens were sung to end the service. It was announced that Huronview Fellowship Time will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m. wich and Ed Haines of Beamsville, and five grandchildren. They love to lawn bowl and enjoy wintering in Florida. This past Saturday at the Auburn Community Hall, the Hainses com- memorated 50 golden years of mar- riage with family and friends, among them their matron-of-hon- our and the wedding soloist Mar- jorie Heroux of Oakville. They were entertained by the cloggers of Huron. Following the Open House there was a dinner at the United Church. The many speeches and the pro- gram were enjoyed by all.
