Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion 1993
Flea Market, Reunion's added attraction
Memories
The Flea Market at the Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion is full of artifacts of
earlier rural life, which brings back many memories to the older visitors and
is an interestingly educational experience for the young group.
When the idea of a flea market for the
Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association was devised in the mid-80s
there was much concern expressed that the
event would take away from the show's
intention of displaying antiques.
Then chairperson Bruce Thompson
assured the committee that the wares to be
sold would be antique and the market which
began in 1987 with just a couple of vendors
has caught on with sellers and buyers alike.
Most of the items sold have been
primarily of an agricultural nature, but there
are also many examples of old-fashioned
kitchen ware and household items. Vendors
have come from as far away as Windsor to
peddles their wares.
Organizers have said that the flea market
isn't a big money maker for the Reunion, but
it is an added attraction.

Many events
before year's end
When the steam dies down from the 32nd
annual Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association Reunion this year, there are still
many events for enthusiasts this year.
At Bill Burwell's farm in Renfrew on
Sept. 18, 19 is the Antique and Steam Show.
That same weekend the Bruce's Mill
Harvest Fcst is on. Part of this celebration is
the antique steam show, horse drawn wagon
rides and arts and crafts.
Sept. 21-25 is the International Plowing
Match in Walkerton, then on Oct. 17
Rockwood, Ont. hosts the Central Ontario
Farm Toy Show and Sale at the Rockmosa
Community Centre.
Finally at year's end on Dec. 4-5 the
Seaforth Agricultural Grounds will be the
site of the Midwestern Farm Toy, Doll and
Craft Show and Sale.
