A new event this year will be a log piling

There will be prizes awarded for all

Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion 1993
Events for all ages highlight Reunion
The 32nd Annual Huron Pioneer Thresher
and Hobby Association reunion to be held in
Blyth from Sept. 10 to 12, has events
scheduled for all age groups.
Besides the threshing events, tractors pulls
and log sawing competitions, committee
member Jeff Peters has put together some
fun events for the children.
Mr. Peters says the events are aimed at
children 10 years and younger though some
older children may be included.
The activities will run on Saturday and
Sunday afternoons beginning at 2 p.m.
The most popular event is the tractor pull
for the children, says Mr. Peters. The
youngest group will probably be for four
year olds and younger with each other age
group including two years (ie. five and six
year olds). The number of classes will
depend on the number of children who wish
to participate.
The event is run just like the adult pull.
The trailer, which is pulled by the pint-sized
tractors, gradually shifts the weight to the
rear. This increases the drag as the puller
advances down the track.
Another fun activity will be the obstacle
course. Mr. Peters says the race includes
walking across a raised board, tying a feed

For 32 years each September people have
been drawn to Blyth to partake of some
nostalgia, history and entertainment.
The Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association's annual Reunion has grown
from its humble beginnings (there were five
steam tractors, two separators, a rented saw
mill and an attendance of 500) at the first
Reunion) to a massive event.
President Ray Hallahan hailed last year's
event a "great success", with over 12,000
visitors. In addition there were 411 campers,
who began pulling their trailers in two weeks
before the event.
Association Secretary Marian Hallahan
attributes the success of the Reunion to the
great variety. For $4 admission, visitors last
year saw steam engines, model steam
engines, an antique flea market, a large saw
mill, miniature saw mill, shingle mill, a
baker fan, gas tractors, gas engines, antique
vehicles, antique tractor pull, log saw, belt
setting, bag tying, cider and bean pots,
souvenir dishes and crafts.
Classes from five area schools also took
part in a special educational program on the

Enjoying the task
As one can see by looking at the happy expression on this participant's
face, the young visitors to the Thresher Reunion are pleased to be part of
things by competing in the Optimists children's events.
The bale toss one of last year's
children's events at the Reunion gave
youngsters a chance to test their
strength.
