Rev. Jack Westerhof speaks at Blyth CRC
On Sunday, Sept. 5, Rev. Jack
Westerhof of Palmerston CRC led
both worship services at Blyth
Christian Reformed Church.
As an opening Rev. Westerhof
reflected on nearly 30 years ago
when Blyth CRC was just
beginning and he came to preach as
a candidate.
The call to worship and God's
greeting were then delivered. The
opening hymn was No. 461,
"Beautiful Saviour".
Then two new elders and one

Rev. Westerhof based the sermon

is a reasonably new one to the min-
istries of Canada, as he is an inten-
tional interim minister. He stays at
each church for only one year.
The practice began approximate-
ly 20 years ago as a way of bridg-
ing the gap between a minister
leaving a parish and the call of a
new one. Rev. Boughton says,
"This gives the community time to
find the right minister for them;
someone who fits the needs of the
congregation. It is no good finding
a minister who only wants to give
sermons if the community needs a
youth group leader."
He says, "There are about 800
intentional interim ministers in
North America. Though most are in
the United States, the need for the
service is growing quickly in Cana-
da."

MARILYN OLIVE GAL-
BRAITH
After battling illness for the past
year, Marilyn Olive Galbraith died
at her Whitby home on Aug. 29,
1993.
The former Marilyn Campbell
was born 48 years ago in Morris
Twp., to the late Floyd Campbell
and his wife Olive. Following her
graduation from high school in
Wingham she attended the Ryerson
Polytechnical Institute and Tea-
cher's College in Toronto. On July
15, 1967, she married John Gal-
braith in Belgrave. They had a son,
Michael and a daughter Kelly, who
both reside in Whitby. Mrs. Gal-
braith was employed as a teacher of

profound experience Rev.
Westerhof said. God has given us
his accessible word, the Bible. He
wants people to know their worth
and that he has a unique plan for
each life, said Rev. Westerhof.

crowd of 175 people.
At the Huron Chapel Sunday
morning worship services, Mr. Tam
will deliver messages on "God's
Woodshed" and "Laying up Trea-
sures in Heaven".
Also ministering in music
throughout the weekend will be the
Avila Singers, a Mexican couple,
who are friends of the Tams.
He spent 10 years in the Baptist
ministry in his home town of
Collingwood. His training allows
him to minister in United, Presbyte-
rian, Christian Reform and Men-
nonite churches. "These are the
ones similar to the Baptist church,"
he says.
In the last five years he has also
trained as a chaplin.
Rev. Boughton's wife Joan works
for the county health unit in
Collingwood and they have three
children.
The eldest, Richard, 26, was mar-
ried in June; Sarah, 24 will begin
teachers' college in Thunder Bay
with a degree in physical education
and biology from McMaster and
the youngest Andrew, 19, will enter
Queen's University to study physi-
cal education and science.

Her father, Floyd predeceased
her in 1969.
Funeral services were held on
Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. from the W.C.
Town Funeral Home. Rev. Brian
Gee was the officiating clergy. Car-
rying their sister to her final resting
place at Groveside Cemetery were
her brothers, Ron, Lorne, Allan,
John, Bruce and Gordon Campbell.
The question is are you ready?
Rev. Westerhof said "By leaving
the Bible closed in our families,
visiting and at our work or with our
children and those around us, we
will not come to know about the
Lord."
Through God's work in Samuel
and Samuels' words to the people
Israel became a believing nation
again.
Rev. Westerhof concluded with
the questions, "Have you heard
God calling you?"
Have you answered "Speak Lord
I'm listening?"
