Morris proceeds with CN rail line purchase
Road Superintendent Lloyd
Michie advised council at the Aug
24 meeting, that CN had called
concerning the removal of rails and
ties from the line.
CN had given the road dept. per-
mission to remove the rails and ties
that they unhooked. The road crew
was to place them along the CN
right-of way. Since then, the rails
and ties have disappeared but, the
township is not aware of who
removed them.
Council passed a bylaw to pro-
ceed with the transaction to pur-
chase the CN rail line which is
located within the township bound-
aries.
They will also request that the
bridge at Lot 27, Conc. 1 remain
intact.
Andy McBride of Maitland Engi-
neering Service was present at the
meeting to discuss several drain
issues.
Improvements and repairs were
proposed for the Nichol Drain,
however, after discussion and on
the advice of Mr. McBride, council
decided only necessary repairs be
done at present.
Council appointed Mr. McBride
to prepare a report on the drain for
further improvements next year.
The results of the survey will be
presented at a meeting scheduled
for Sept. 9, at BMG Community
Centre.
The public meeting for affected
landowners will begin at 8:30 p.m.,
to discuss all proposed changes.
Council informed Mr. McBride
of a landowner at Lot 9,Conc. 7,
who had tile drained his land into
the Spivey Drain. His land should
not be in the drain's watershed.
Mr. McBride will look into the
problem.
Council accepted the drainage
petitions for the following drains:
Bird Drain, Lot 11, Conc. 7;
Coultes Drain, Lot 5 and 6, Conc.
5; Wells Drain, Lot 10, 11 and 12,
Conc. 9 and Fease Drain, Lot 12,
Conc. 8.
A petition from the Ministry of
Transportation for the Arbuckle
Drain was also accepted.
A bylaw was passed by council
to authorize the Warwick-Johnston
Mutual Agreement Drain for Lots
15 and 16, Conc. 2.
Maitland Engineering Services
presented a bill to council for the
installation of wells and testing at
the landfill site. The bill to date is
$5,186.64.
Mr. Lloyd Michie gave council a
report on the state of construction
on the Pletch storm sewer.
He said the sewer had been
straightened in the Lyle Campbell
lot as he had requested.
Council was advised the Beth
Proctor lot could not be connected
to the Pletch sewer because the
house drains were lower than the
storm sewer. The water from her
lot would have to be drained north
and east down the road sewer.
Mr. Michie said the George
Carter lot had been connected to
the storm sewer and this should
help the Proctor lot.
Council authorized Mr. Michie to
begin digging along Brandon Street
so the Proctor lot would have an
outlet.
Kenneth Shortreecl of South Part
Lot 19, Conc. 9 received no objec-
tions from council for a way side
pit permit for the 1993 gravel appli-
cation. This was allowed because
there is no other accessible gravel
in the area but, the gravel must still
meet MTO standards.
Craig Metzger of the Huron
County Planning Department
attended the meeting to explain an
application for re-zoning by James
McCallum of Queen Street, Bel-
grave.
Grey Twp. council held its
regular meeting on Aug. 30, and
passed a bylaw authorizing the
purchase of all lands presently
under the ownership of Canadian
National Railways within Grey.
A resolution was passed
authorizing the Brussels, Morris
and Grey Board of Recreational
Management to purchase a dish-
washer for use by the B. M. & G.
Catering group.
Council accepted the offer of
