The winner will be crowned at the annual dance on Saturday, Sept. 11, by last year's Queen Margaret Jarvis. or Fair ueen, crown TRICIA ZEHR Tricia, 17, is the daughter of Joe and Sandy Zehr of RR 3 Brussels. She will be attending grade 12 at Listowel District S.S. Tricia is presently employed by the Old Mill in Blyth and enjoys playing baseball for the Brussels Midget girls in her spare time. Brussels Livestock is sponsoring Tricia. KERRI FOXTON Kerri, 17, is the daughter of Brad and Dorothy Foxton of Brussels. She will be a grade 12 student at F.E. Madill S.S. Her future plans include a day- care management position or a pediatric nurse. Kerri is sponsored by the Brus- sels Fire Department. Joy, message of Mennonite sermon On Sunday, Aug. 22, Pastor Winston Martin gave the message on "Be Full of Joy" at the Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. The scripture lesson was Psalm 16. Nancy Elliot-Greenwood played the piano while Mervin Lichty led the congregational singing. Kristi Procter played for the offeratory and a prelude for the service. Next weekend there will be a Family Retreat. There will be not be a worship service or Sunday School at the church Aug. 29, but a service will be held at Martin's Landing at 9:30. On Sept. 5 a special service is planned for the evening, with Duane and Anita Boles as guests. The annual youth campout will be held next weekend under the supervision of Pastor Tom Warner and Bill and Rose Home. Keep a bottle of drinking water in your fridge instead of running the tap until the water gets cold. Be sure to rinse it regularly. ANN UHLER Ann, 17, is the daughter of Fred and Karen Uhler of RR 3 Brussels. She is sponsored by the Brussels Women's Institute. While preparing for her OAC year at Listowel District S.S., Ann plans to keep up with her many sports and hobbies. They include field hockey, soccer, curling, 4-H, piano, cross country skiing, hiking and reading. By Janice Becker "I got a chance to experience something that few girls do," Mar- garet Jarvis says. She represented Brussels in the Ambassador of the Fair contest at the CNE in Toronto, this past week. Margaret is the daughter of Mary and Frank Stretton of Brussels. She earned the title of Brussels Fair Queen in 1992 and spent the year representing the community at local functions. "As the representative chosen by the community, I feel it is my responsibility to support local events," says Margaret. JACQUELINE SEILI Jacqueline will be attending F.E. Madill S.S. in September, in grade 12. The 17-year-old honour roll stu- dent is the daughter of Joe and Deb Seili of Brussels. Her interests lie in vocal music and swimming. She is sponsored by the Brussels Optimists Club. Margaret says she travelled to Toronto on Aug. 16 to begin three "exhausting" days filled with inter- views, tours and preliminary judg- ing. Immediately upon arrival Mon- day morning, the 102 contestants were interviewed. Margaret says the experience was "intense" as they waited their turn. The interviews included ques- tioning the girls on their knowledge of agriculture, agricultural societies and their personal activities and interests. Margaret says the afternoon was filled with skincare consultations SHARON GODKIN Sharon, of RR 1 Walton, will be sponsored by the Walton Women's Institute. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Marion and Lavern Godkin and will be attending grade 12 at Seaforth District H.S. Her interests include sports and piano. by a world class expert and a tour of Ontario Place and the CNE. By evening the contestants were happy to return to the Loretto Col- lege residence at the University of Toronto for a good night's sleep, says Margaret. The next day began at 6 a.m. as the girls prepared for a day of tours to the CN Tower and the Skydome. The 102 contestants all had to be decked out in their tiara, sash and a dress for the tours, says -Margaret. "Comfortable shoes were a must to be able to enjoy all the events. We --walked everywhere." CNE opening day was Aug. 18 JENNIFER MACHAN The Brussels Horticultural Society will be sponsoring Jennifer for the Brussels Fall Fair. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Carman and Sandra Machan of Brussels. Along with her hobbies of swim- ming, reading, baseball and music, Jennifer will be a grade 11 student at F.E. Madill S.S. in the fall. and the contestants went through the preliminary judging at the Fraz- er Pavilion. Margaret says, "The poise and presentation segment was very tough because everyone was watching you." After some free time in the after- noon, the girls had to begin prepa- rations for the evening finale. "With 5,000 to 6,000 people wait- ing in the Coliseum audience, 102 girls vied for mirror space to check their faces and evening gowns," says Margaret.
