THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, 1993. Envy topic of Blyth Christian Reformed service The scripture reading for the Aug. 15 service at Blyth Christian Reformed Church was taken from I Samuel 18 v. 1-11. The sermon was titled "The Eye of Envy". Rob Datema led the morning service. He began the service talking about the eye. The eye is a complicated tool that enables us to see the beauty of God's world, he said. The eye is such a wonderful gift from God it helps us in our daily work and everything we do. But the eye can also see things that Greeters at Blyth United Church on Aug. 15 were Vera Badley and Lloyd Sippel. Ushers were Les and Shirley Rutledge and Jim and Thelma Wilson. Guest speaker Muriel Coultes opened the service with hymn "New Every Morning is the Love," followed by prayer and responsive reading No. 626, "To you Lord I lift up my soul." The children's story was about a pin wheel. When the wind blows it Pastor Tom Warner preached from Timothy 11 and Hebrews on Sunday, Aug. 15 at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. He pointed out that some who make commitments will fall away from the Christian lifestyle. A commitment brings expectations but God gives power for us to This past week the trusses were erected on the new Huron CAS Family Resource Centre in Goderich. According to project architect, Allan Avis, the building construction is proceeding well and on time. Mr. Avis said, "We are all very pleased with the way the (CAS) building project is taking shape. If all goes well, the Agency staff will be able to start moving into its new home before the end of the year." A committee has been struck to review the year-round playground design. Sheila McCaffrey, Family Service Supervisor, advised the committee that the introduction of an outdoor play area combined with a well equipped family visit room inside the building will assist in alleviating some of the anxiety children experience when they are brought into the Society's centre. "A friendly face in a friendly place does wonders for a child's morale," according to McCaffery who estimates that possibly 20 children will be in the new building over the course of an average day, based on past client demands for the purposes of visits with family, counselling sessions, and during child abuse investigations. For young adolescents and teenagers, quiet reading areas will be provided. The challenge of providing interest centres for older make us sin, caused by envy. Being envious is an age old sin that has been committed by many figures in the Bible, Mr. Datema said. The scripture reading talks about Saul being envious of David. Saul couldn't take the people of his kingdom being more devoted to David than himself. Saul's jealousy and envy made him a very bitter person because he wanted everything that David seemed to possess, Mr. Datema said. Instead of Saul turning to God and repenting, he let his envy eat him makes it move although the wind is invisible. Just like God whom cannot see yet he teaches us to love and be kind to all. Scripture readings were from Deuteronomy and 1 Corinthians 15; 1-5; 58 & 60. The congregation sang "Lord Speak to Me". The sermon "Do Everything in Love" was based on Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, that love is patient, kind, not selfish. Prayer fulfill the expectations if we are faithful to Him and will accept this empowerment. Barbara Fyn accompanied by her father, Robby Fyn provided special music for the service. The Worship Band (Gary and Wendy Martin, and Christy Pardys) were in charge of the music for the congregational children is currently well beyond the financial means of the Society. The $312,000 needed to fund the completion of the new building is top priority of the Society for the time being. Current rental and maintenance costs of $60,000 a year will be saved with the use of the new building and the staff is hopeful, says Ms. McCaffery, that this savings will be applied to programs for the County's most vulnerable citizens, our children at risk of abuse or neglect. In the past three years the Society's intake has increased by over 53 per cent. Unless economic conditions improve dramatically over the next few months, the incidence of child abuse will continue to rise, according to Ms. McCaffrey. Unemployment or underemployment, tends to wreak havoc on families under pressure. For further information, call the Children's Aid Society at 220 Huckins Street, Goderich, telephone 524-7356. up. Saul's envy was so great that he became obsessed with killing David. In this passage it says twice he threw his spear at David hoping to pin David to the wall. Envy diminishes our joy of life. We should try to rid ourselves of the things that we envy and keep our eyes on Jesus Christ for true abundant life, said Mr. Datema. The evening service was led by Rev. Ken Benjamins. He administered the sacrament of baptism to Katelyn Nicole. should be natural, spontaneous and continuous. The service closed with prayer, then the hymn "Take up Thy Cross" followed by the benediction and the singing of 'To God Be The Glory." There will be a meeting on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. in the church parlour for U.C.W. executive and complete Harvest Bonanza Committee. singing.
