Memorial honours young man
For those involved in motocross
and for those who just love to
watch, the presentation of the Rick
Joseph Memorial Award will
remind them of a young man who
loved the sport.
Rick Joseph was a modest young
racer whose natural talent and per-
sonal dedication to the sport were
obvious. His drive to succeed had
allowed him to achieve a personal
goal in his last competition. He
earned a motocross win at the
Florida Mini-Olympics.
The award is made possible by
Rick's parents, Ellie and Richard
Joseph, who remain strong support-
ers and great competitors in
motocross. Mrs. Joseph competes
in the ladies division while her hus-
band takes part in the old timers
class.
The award, a combination of
cash and plaque, is given to the
intermediate rider who best dis-
plays the qualities of sportsmanship
and dedication to the sport. The
young racers will be observed
throughout the weekend, by a panel
of evaluators.
Last year's recipient was Brett
Lee of Walton.
The special award, with cash val-
ues of $150, $100 and $50, will be
presented in Rick's memory, at the
Trans Can National Motocross
Championships held in Walton on
Aug. 19 to 22.
Number 4
Bill Wallin of Barrie is ranked
number four in Canada and he
will be competing at the Trans
Can National Motocross
Championships in Walton
from Aug 19 to 22.
Right out of my seat
Local racer Mike Cronyn of Blyth, appears to be preparing
to leave his bike behind. When jumping, the racers lift with
the motion of the bike to allow for better control.
