Alvin and Vera McDonald
greeted people attending Duff s
United Aug. 15.
For children's time Rev. Randy
and Patty Banks did a comedy
sketch called "The Most Expensive
Meal in History" — the story of
Jacob and Esau. The already warm
church grew warmer as Jacob
(Randy) stirred his imaginary stew
in one pot and his laundry in the
other. Esau (Patty) was quite
famished and at one point after
smelling both pots, preferred the
laundry to eat.
However, Esau did trade his
birthright for the stew which he
found out tasted like cement with
carrots. Much too late he realized
he had lost something that was
everlasting.
Rev. Banks's sermon was called
"The Times, They are a Changing."

The best wishes of the
community are extended to Mrs.
Shirley Lyon, who is presently at
this month's title is "Mission into
the 21st century." Rev. Banks
quoted a few facts and figures from
it, about the decline in attendance
of mainline churches in North
America. With so many various
cultures in our country,
Institutional Christianity is
becoming a minority. Rev. Banks
asked, "Will there be a United
Church in the 21st Century? Have
we lost our roots and traditions?
Are we letting our institutions sink
while other cultures grow?"
In Rev. Banks's estimation, the
missions will be to address the
spiritual needs of the people, to
familiarize themselves with the
history and traditions of the church,
increase Biblical knowledge and
teach each other to pray and to
listen to God.

A wind-up party was held for all
kids playing on the Walton teams.
It began at the Brussels pool where
they enjoyed an hour of swimming
then a barbecue at the Walton Ball
Park.
