Mark Beckenridge of the Brussels Bulldogs, is safe at
home in this late inning slide. The Bulldogs took on the
Wroxeter Royals in one of many games at the Brussels
Invitational Men's Fastball Tournament. The tournament
ran from July 30 to Aug. 2.

Tigers lose tournament
The Tigers participated in the
Brussels Optimist Fastball
Tournament on the weekend with
disappointing results.
Saturday a three-run homer over
the left field fence in the bottom of
the seventh gave the Thamesford
Thunder a 6-4 win while Sunday
the Shakespeare Colts scored eight
first inning runs enroute to an 11-1
mercy.
Ken Higgins hit a solo shot into
the centerfield beer gardens for the
Tigers only run Sunday while
Saturday Kevin Kellington reached
base three for three while Gary
Pipe and Doug Shaw were two for
three including an opposite field
home run by Pipe.

Though the catcher for the Shakespeare Colts is poised for the ball, Ken Higgins of the
Brussels Tigers, foils his attempted catch. The Tigers participated in the 22nd Annual Men's
Fastball Tournament held in Brussels from July 30 to Aug. 2

The Blyth Mosquito Soccer team
enjoyed a good season this year.
They played a total of 10 games,
the last being July 29.
In the final four games, they won
three and lost one. The July 5 game
against Clinton, they won 6-0. Goal
scorers were Christina Black, 1;
Michael Courtney, 1; Kelly Boven,
1; Cappy Onn, 1; April Van
Amersfoort, 2; and assists going to
Michael, 2; April, 2; Dianne
Mason, 1; Greg Cullen, 1; Janet
Bosma, 3; Kelly, 2; and Christina,
1.
On Monday, July 12, Blyth lost
against Goderich Lions 3-2. Jeff
Even with 8 runs in the third
inning, Belgrave Peewees were
unable to overcome the Seaforth
team, on July 26.

rebound to gain a total of nine runs
Cowan scored unassisted and
Cappy Onn scored with April,
Michael and Jeff assisting.
On July 15, the Blyth team came
up with a win against the Goderich
MacDonalds with a score of 3-1.
Michael Ansley scored twice, and
Zeb Irving scored once. Goals were
assisted by Michael Courtney,
Cappy Onn and Michael Ansley.
The final regular season game
was played on July 29, against
Clinton. They came up with a 5-2
win. Goals were scored by Jeff
Cowan, unassisted; Michael
Courtney, from Julie Ritchie;
Michael Courtney from Zeb Irving
to the bottom of the inning.
Seaforth finished off Belgrave
when they scored six runs in the
fourth.
The final score was Seaforth 13
and Belgrave 10.
David McBurney pitched the
entire game for Belgrave, with
and Nicholas Courtney; Kelly
Boven from Christina Black; Brad
Mason from Nicholas Courtney,
and Jeff Cowan and Julie Ritchie
from Zeb and Jeff.
The team ended the season with
five wins, two ties and three losses.
They scored 43 goals and had 19
goals scored against them. The
year-end tournament will be played
on Aug. 7, in Goderich for three
different levels, Atoms, Mosqui-
toes, and Pee Wees. Please contact

This should prove to be a very
entertaining day of soccer from our
local boys and girls.

Tigers
finish 4th
The Brussels Tigers finished
their Huron County Fastball
League schedule in fourth place
and will meet the Zurich Rangers in
opening round playoff action.
Game one in the best of three
series is scheduled for 9:00 tonight
(Wednesday) in Brussels.
The only meeting of these two
clubs saw the Tigers come from
behind for an 8-8 tie in Zurich.
Atwood
skip wins
On a lovely summer afternoon,
July 25 there was 54 bowlers
playing trebles on nine greens at
the Brussels Bowling Club.
The winning skips were: first,
Doug Kid, Atwood, 3 wins 45 + 1;
second, Don Haines, Clinton, 3
wins 40 + 7; third, Gerald Gibson,
Brussels, 2 wins 43; fourth, Bill
Nichols, Stratford, 2 wins 39; fifth,
Bob McKinley, Clinton, 2 wins 39;
sixth, Dave Miller, Stratford, 2
wins 39; seventh, Reg Near, St.
Marys, 2 wins 37 + 1; eighth, Len
Brubacher, Elmira, 2 wins 33;
ninth, Ken Pust, St. Marys, 2 wins
32. The consolation went to Murray
Lowe, Brussels.
Brussels Mosquitoes lost to
Wallace 4-2 at Wallace Park on
July 28. Brussels opened the
scoring on a long kick by center
half back Trevor Wilson. Wallace
tied the game, but Brussels'
forward Terry Nichol beat the
Wallace defense and put Brussels
ahead.
The second half belonged to
Wallace after Wilson was injured.
Brussels was not able to contain
Wallace who kept the ball in
Brussels' end for most of the half.

team was unable to held off the

Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 21 is the
date for the end of season
tournament.
